I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 544

Steven met my eyes and said flatly, "As you wish."

Hearing this, I raised an eyebrow. Whether he was sincere or not, I was delighted by this outcome.

Verna was incredulous, her fury palpable as she clenched her fists.

"Mr. Lancaster! I have a degree from a top university, and you want me to clean toilets?"

Not only that, she was a scholarship student who had studied abroad. In her past life, she had become a chief physician at a young age, a famously beautiful doctor.

Now, stuck in Steven's company with her position demoted again and again, the proud Verna was probably about to explode with rage.

I narrowed my eyes and couldn't help but laugh, a genuine, mocking laugh.

"He's offering you a transfer. If you don't like it, you can always resign. If he doesn't give you severance, you can sue him."

Verna glared at me, trembling with humiliation.

"Zephyra, you're doing this on purpose, aren't you! You just don't want me at Aether Studio! But you don't even like Mr. Lancaster! The one you love is Horace, so what right do you have to be so tyrannical? You just love targeting other women, turning everything into a competition to have all the men in the world fawning over you, don't you? You really are the villainess of this story!"

I remained calm, even breaking into a smile.

The one who liked having men wrapped around her finger wasn't me; it was Verna.

I glanced at Verna, failing to understand where she got her sense of superiority, this need to constantly judge others. She always called me the villainess. Did she really see herself as the heroine? Was she out of her mind?

"Thanks for the compliment. If you're the heroine—a manipulative, two-faced waste of space—then I'd much rather be the villainess."

Verna's innocent, pretty face flushed red with anger. She lifted her chin defiantly and turned to Steven. "Mr. Lancaster, Zephyra is deceiving you! There's no way she'd get back together with you! You know who she really loves! And you know that we..."

Steven suddenly shot Verna a piercing look.

"Okay," I said, following him.

Verna stomped her foot in frustration, tears of indignation rolling down her cheeks before she stormed out of the room.

I saw it all, then sat on the sofa and waited for Steven to tend to my face.

The office was dead quiet, the only sound being the clatter of keyboards.

The assistant had disappeared at some point. When Steven brought over the first-aid kit, I placed my hand on his.

"I can do it myself. Don't you have a meeting to get back to? You should go, don't keep everyone waiting. And thank you for coming down to help me."

I didn't want to discuss Verna with him anymore. As long as she was on the cleaning staff, that was enough.

He didn't listen, simply moving my hand aside. He took a tube of ointment from the kit, disinfected the area, and gently applied it to my cheek.
