I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 596

He was obsessed with the past, but some of the things he said felt alien. I didn’t remember saving him. In our last life, Steven was never in any accidents; it was usually me. And I certainly never told him not to forget me or not to love someone else.

I started to wonder if he was fabricating his own memories.

Just as I was about to speak, I heard a bodyguard call out, “Mr. Lancaster,” and rush over with Steven’s phone. “Mr. Lancaster, Gordon says it’s urgent.”

Another bodyguard held Rachel, who was looking at me anxiously but had stopped yelling at Steven.

Steven took the call, and Gordon’s frantic voice came through. “Mr. Lancaster, there are two emergencies. You need to brace yourself.”

“First, it’s not just the bid we lost; it’s the overseas project too. I heard the Brooks family copied our model, and our users are flocking to them. Our market value has evaporated by over a hundred million in the last few days. It's serious. The board is furious, and Mr. Thomas Lancaster… he’s brought in investors and is demanding a showdown with you. The board has already approved it. They need you at a shareholder meeting before five this afternoon.”

Steven’s eyes narrowed slightly. “Thomas brought investors? Who’s backing him?”

“We haven’t identified them yet, but they’re coming on strong. They’re probably trying to take a piece of the pie while Aether Studio is in turmoil. But Mr. Lancaster, the second thing is much more serious.”

Gordon was frantic, but he was afraid if he led with this news, Steven wouldn't hear anything else. “Chairman Lancaster has been in an accident. On his way to the courthouse, his car was hit by a large truck… He’s in the hospital, they’re trying to save him now.”

Steven’s pupils constricted. “What did you say? How is Grandpa now? Which hospital? Who told him about the hearing?”

Grandpa Marico?

I immediately looked up, a sense of unease growing as I watched the color drain from Steven’s face.

Mr. Lancaster Sr.? What happened to him?

Besides, telling him about the hearing would only worry him. Knowing his temperament, he would have likely come to the courthouse to support me.

Steven just stared at me. Soon, my phone was recovered. The case was gone, and the screen was shattered, but it could still be turned on.

He scrolled through my messages, then checked my blacklist. His face twisted into something terrifying, the bloodshot hue in his eyes deepening.

He radiated pure malice as he grabbed my face, his voice a low growl. “I thought you had some limits, but I never imagined your heart could be this cruel. Do you hate me so much that you’d even harm the grandfather who doted on you?”

I stared at his crazed expression, the unease in my heart suddenly expanding. “I don’t know what you’re talking about…”

“Enough. I’ve heard enough of your lies these past few days,” Steven’s voice was laced with a chilling fury, his face deathly pale, as if he might shatter at any moment. “Zephyra, I admit defeat. We’re finished in this lifetime. This is the end, the absolute end—”
