I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 695

Another couple of weeks went by, and I still hadn't left the villa. Doctors came and went in a steady stream, and I'd tried countless prescriptions, but none of them could cure my amnesia. At least I hadn't experienced any recent shocks, and the nightmares had finally stopped.

But I felt my health deteriorating. I was constantly exhausted, wanting to sleep all the time, and I'd eat only to throw it up again. It was a miserable existence.

As a result, my design work fell behind schedule.

I had hoped to finish the designs quickly for Mr. Taylor to review, but Steven told me he'd already left, rushing off to preside over some conference. So, I had to resort to communicating with him by phone.

Thankfully, Mr. Taylor was very understanding. He didn't pressure me at all and insisted I focus on getting better.

Steven, meanwhile, was constantly busy. His health was improving, but his schedule was getting more packed. It seemed like he was either handling a major project or cracking down on something. I often overheard him on the phone, his tone icy as he demanded progress and results.

He was incredibly intimidating when he was dealing with business matters, so I made sure to stay out of his way.

What surprised me was that, despite being so busy, Steven still found time to manage my affairs. He had already taken care of the university program Mr. Taylor had mentioned, arranging a leave of absence for me but ensuring the university would welcome me back anytime I wished to return.

The school was a world-renowned university where I'd be pursuing graduate studies. While I had some qualifications, I knew it wasn't enough for them to make such an exception. Steven, his eyes fixed on his computer screen, stated bluntly, "I made a donation."

Right.

Money talks, I guess. The old saying is true.

A couple of days later, Steven's phone started ringing off the hook, but he ignored the calls, telling me instead that he was taking me to his father's house.

Just before we left, Wilma quietly told me that it was his birthday. A pang of guilt hit me—I had been his wife and was now his girlfriend, yet I had no idea when his birthday was.

On the way to his father's house, I racked my brain for a gift that was thoughtful but could be arranged at a moment's notice. I didn't want to give him something generic; a man as rich and powerful as Steven surely wanted for nothing and had seen it all. But even after we finished the birthday cake with his father, I still couldn't think of anything.
