I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 706

“I can't even imagine how Steven dares to do so many illegal things in a society with laws!” Rachel said, her voice filled with angry agitation. “And this is just what we've been able to uncover. Who knows how much more he's done that we don't know about!”

I never expected people in high positions to have perfectly clean hands. Steven wasn't a saint, but I didn't think he was some lawless madman either.

I lifted my gaze to Rachel. “I understand. You must be exhausted. You should go home and get some rest.”

Rachel's eyes were red as she nodded firmly.

She told me to rest well too, promising to visit tomorrow. But I spoke coolly, my eyes devoid of emotion.

“Don't bother. There's no need to come tomorrow. And unless it's an emergency, we don't need to see each other again.”

Rachel’s face froze, the color draining from it.

“Zephyra… are you still mad at me? It's not what you think with Verna and me. I never saw her as a friend. She was blackmailing me, forcing me to do things. She said she wouldn't help Horace otherwise. I… I just don't want anything terrible to happen to him. Please, can you not be mad at me?”

I watched her frantic explanation, my expression calm. My voice was soft but firm.

“Rachel, that's what Steven used to tell me.”

Rachel’s expression turned to panic. She looked at me, wanting to speak but holding back, suddenly understanding my meaning—if you can't stand by my side without hesitation, then I don't want you there at all.

Her eyes were red. “Aren't you… being a little too harsh on me? Zephyra, I'm not like Steven, who's always favoring Verna. They were already messing around before your accident. And after you lost your memory, he gave Verna a billion dollars, introduced her to business contacts, and helped her start a company!”

“He's the worst kind of cheater! You're pregnant, and he's still fooling around with another woman!”

“I was just… I was just trying to protect both you and Horace. Are you really going to abandon me for that?”

My eyes flickered slightly, but I said nothing.

But he was just as unyielding, authoritatively helping me lie down anyway.

“You must have a lot of questions, and I'll answer anything. I'll do anything for you. But I have one condition.” He reached out to tuck the blanket around me. “You can't abandon me and the baby.”

I couldn't help but look at Steven, finding it impossible to guess what he was thinking. A mocking smile touched my lips.

“If I remember correctly, before my amnesia, you told me you never wanted to see me again.”

Besides, he gave Verna a billion dollars. Their relationship must be better than I thought; I didn't even get that much in our divorce.

Steven watched me steadily, a storm of suppressed emotions crashing over him.

“Before you regained your memory, you also promised you'd remarry me.”
