I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 710

I looked at Steven and shook my head without hesitation.

I had just regained my memory, and while I had so many questions, a nagging premonition told me that revealing the dreams about my five past lives to Steven would lead to something terrible.

He seemed a little disappointed, but a faint smile still graced his handsome face as he squeezed my hand tightly. “I'll get you something to eat. You lost a lot of blood when you fell down the stairs; you need to build your strength back up.”

I didn't refuse.

Whether he was the child's father or not, I was pushed down those stairs because his father's men were chasing me. It nearly cost me and my baby our lives, so the least he could do was dote on me.

Steven brought back an array of delicious, beautifully prepared food, and I polished it all off without a word. He just sat beside me, watching me quietly, his gaze so intense and searing it felt like he was trying to pierce my soul and analyze every part of me.

I couldn't stand it anymore. I put down my fork and looked up at Steven.

“Why are you just sitting there watching me eat? Don't you have your own work to do? Now that you've expanded your business, shouldn't you be busy?”

Steven sat up straight, his gaze unwavering. “You're more important than anything else.”

“I'd appreciate it if you'd focus on finishing the three tasks I gave you instead of sweet-talking me.”

He seemed to hesitate, his handsome brows furrowing.

“Once I finish these three things, you're not just going to kick me to the curb, are you?”

“Am I that kind of person?”

Steven's thin lips pressed into a line. “You've done it more than once.”

He was remembering how I’d talked a good game about settling down and living a quiet life together, only to turn around and sell his project to his biggest rival.

I'd promised to give him a chance, but the next thing he knew, I was already packed and ready to leave.

Now I was saying I might stay, but who knew if I would just take off again.

I suspected I'd messed with his head so much he was traumatized, with his trust in me worn down to almost nothing. He seemed to be racking his brain for ways to keep us entangled, growing restless the moment things felt settled.

As I met his dark, deep eyes, I felt like I was looking at my past self.

The one who had been driven mad by his distance and coldness.

Heartbroken and hysterical.

“G-good evening, ma'am…”

Pregnant women need a lot of sleep, especially after a near-fatal fall. Even after sleeping for half the day, I was still exhausted. I propped myself up in bed and rubbed the bridge of my nose.

“I'm only giving you one chance,” I said. “Answer my questions. If you don't cooperate, you'll go right back where you came from.”

The thug nearly fell to his knees, nodding frantically. “Please, just ask! I'll tell you everything I know! Just don't send me back there! Your husband is terrifying! All I did was take a small job to bring you to a location, and I nearly lost my life for it!”

Gordon had told me all the thugs were sent to prison, but Rachel and Verna weren't charged.

Steven had almost lost his child, so his fury was predictable. These men had just become his punching bags.

My expression flickered, and my voice was cold and heavy.

“How many people were standing near me at that moment? Who pushed me down the stairs?”

The thug's eyes widened instantly, and he looked furious.

“So you *were* pushed! I knew I wasn't seeing things! Everyone else insisted you got scared of us and fell on your own. I'm telling you, the person who pushed you was standing right behind you. It was…”
