I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 721

I frowned, looking at him impatiently. "Steven, have you no shame? How can you even say something like that?"

He shrugged, feigning innocence. "Shame is for strangers. Why would I need any in front of my own wife?"

I couldn't be bothered to argue with him, so I changed the subject. "Where's Verna? You promised you'd bring her to me. Don't tell me you're having second thoughts now."

I wasn't sure what Steven's true feelings for Verna were, but based on his past behavior, he was incredibly tolerant of her. Even though he claimed to dislike her, I found it hard to believe.

Steven scoffed, his voice a mix of helplessness and grievance. "Why would I have second thoughts?"

He paused, reaching out to smooth my hair. "I'm just worried about you. I'm afraid seeing her will upset you, and that wouldn't be good for the baby."

I snorted, cutting him off.

"Enough! Don't try to placate me with excuses. Verna has provoked me time and again, and this time she nearly cost me my child. I will not let her get away with it."

"I want to see her now. Refusing me will only make me angrier!"

"Alright, don't be angry!" Steven's brow furrowed, his expression clearly anxious. "I'll let you see her. You can do whatever you want with her, but you have to promise me you'll stay calm, okay?"

"Fine," I muttered.

Steven called out coldly to the door, "Come in!"

I stared intently at the door. Gordon walked in, followed by a man named Steven Lancaster, who was half-supporting, half-dragging a bowed Verna. A brawny man followed behind them, head down, not daring to make a sound.

"Ptui!"

Verna suddenly spat, a glob of bloody saliva flying towards me and landing about a yard away. Steven frowned, clearly displeased by her defiance.

Seeing this, Thomas, the brawny man, quickly stepped forward and pulled her back, his voice tinged with panic. "For God's sake, just behave! If Leonard gets angry, he'll actually kill you!"

Verna ignored him completely, her eyes fixed on me. "Zephyra, don't get too comfortable. Remember what I said: you're just the villainess in this story. I'm the main character."

Hearing the word "villainess" ignited my anger.

She was always going on about being the main character. Fine. Then this villainess would show her what she was made of.
