My brow furrowed. Mr. Lancaster Sr. had told me to use the baby to control Steven, but he had clearly underestimated Steven's shamelessness. Now, Steven was the one using the baby to make unreasonable demands!
I shot him a fierce glare and moved to the armchair, draping my arm over the armrest.
The smile on Steven's face vanished instantly. His expression was cold for a few seconds before returning to normal.
After I had washed up, I saw Steven heading upstairs to bed and stopped him.
It was time to settle the score for him and the old man conspiring to deceive me.
“Mop the floor before you go to bed.”
I was deliberately making things difficult for him. The old mansion's hardwood floors required careful maintenance, and with so many servants, the old man hated noise, so mopping was usually done by hand.
Steven looked up at me, a smile playing on his lips as if he'd seen right through my little trick. “It's too late tonight. I'll do it tomorrow morning.”
Without even thinking, I said, “No, right now.”
The whole point was to torment Steven and make him lose sleep. Doing it tomorrow would defeat the purpose.
Before he could answer, I continued, “Steven, you're the one who said you'd do whatever I told you. Are you going back on your word after just a few hours?”
Steven's gaze was soft and helpless. “I'm not going back on my word, but you need to sleep.”
Seeing my confusion, his smile deepened. “You only sleep well when I'm holding you.”
Steven looked at me with a deep gaze. “Zephyra, I…”
Before he could finish, I cut him off. “You have two choices. One, you go mop the floor obediently. Two, you don't have to, but I'll be moving out of this mansion tomorrow.”
Hearing this, Steven gave a wry, helpless smile and finally conceded. “Alright. I'll go mop now.”
I followed Steven downstairs, not because I was worried he'd slack off, but because I wanted to supervise him personally and enjoy the pleasure of watching him work.
What I didn't expect, however, was how adept Steven was at cleaning. Every step was methodical and organized, as if he were born to do it.
I sat leisurely on the sofa, quietly admiring the scene, my heart filled with an unprecedented sense of satisfaction.
