I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 853

So all of that was for nothing.

I didn’t have to guess to know she found out about Steven waiting for me at Uncle Julian’s house. How could I possibly explain that? I couldn’t very well say he was there to assassinate me.

While my mind was reeling, Queena spoke again. “But it doesn’t matter. Soon, Steven and I will be married, and I’ll be Mrs. Lancaster. Then, it won’t matter who you are.”

Married. The word hit me like a physical blow, a heavy weight settling in my chest.

I repeated, “You’re getting married?”

Steven supposedly liked me. Why would he agree to marry Queena?

Queena laughed. “That’s right. We’re going to have a grand wedding, and the whole world will know that I, Queena, have become Steven’s wife.”

I took a sharp breath. “Steven agreed to marry you?”

Queena gloated, “Of course. I’ve always said, I’m the only one worthy of him.”

My voice was cold. “Does that mean you can let me go?”

“No. I’ll call again later. I want you to say a few words to Steven.”

I clenched my fist. “And if I refuse?”

“Then I’ll have your friend thrown into the ocean to feed the fish,” she said impatiently. “Think it over.”

With that, she hung up. I stared at the blank screen, her words echoing in my mind: *we’re getting married.*

Just as I was lost in thought, the phone rang again.

I answered immediately. “Queena…”

Before I could finish, Steven’s voice came through, raw and hoarse, like he hadn’t slept in days. “Zephyra, are you okay? Are you hurt?”

I wondered what her reaction would be if she had memories of her past life. Would she still be so obsessed with being with Steven?

I handed the phone back to Nelson, whose gaze fell on the ramen bowls nearby.

Nelson looked at me. “Why didn’t you eat?”

Before I could speak, Rachel jumped in. “It’s all crushed to bits, and who knows if that bastard put something weird in it.”

Nelson said nothing, simply got up and left the room. He returned less than two minutes later and tossed two packs of cookies to us.

Rachel’s face lit up. She immediately tore one open and took a bite. “Hey, these are pretty good.”

Nelson took his chair and left. I was still mulling over Steven marrying Queena, distractedly tearing open my own pack of cookies.

Rachel didn’t notice my preoccupation and chattered on, “I get why Queena kidnapped you now. It’s obviously to blackmail Steven into marrying her…”
