Her face burned with humiliation. She quickened her pace, practically sprinting down the hall until she reached Nora's office and threw the door open without knocking.
Nora was calmly organizing files on her desk. Hearing the intrusion, she didn't even bother to look up. "Just leave it there. I'll review it in a minute."
Seraphina let out a shrill sneer. Her eyes burned with a murderous rage, making it clear she wanted nothing more than to strangle Nora on the spot.
"Are you happy now, Nora?!"
Nora paused, finally raising her head to look at the furious woman standing across from her.
She let out a light, dismissive chuckle. "Oh, it's you."
Seraphina lunged forward, slamming both hands onto the desk as she gritted her teeth. "You did all of this, didn't you?! How could you be so vicious?! What did I ever do to you to make you ruin my life?!"
Nora met her crazed glare with total composure. Given the absolute state of victory she had achieved, there was no point in denying it. She offered a cold, elegant smile. "When you were actively destroying someone else's life, did you ever stop and ask yourself why?"
Seraphina froze, realizing the implication. "You know everything. Since when did you know?"
Nora spread her hands smoothly. "Since the very beginning. I'm not as brainless as you."
Pure hatred blazed in Seraphina's eyes. She raised a hand to slap Nora across the face, but Nora moved faster, catching her wrist in an iron-clad grip.
"You really think you can still lay a hand on me?"
Unwilling to concede defeat, Seraphina spat, "But Finnegan wants to reclaim his real identity and get back together with you! You little bitch, why are you still acting so high and mighty?! Stop trying to steal the spotlight. Finnegan belongs to me, and only me!"
Nora gave her a withering glare. "If you want that piece of garbage, you are more than welcome to keep him. I've never been in the habit of fighting over trash."
Seraphina faltered. "What did you say? You don't love him anymore?"
Nora's expression remained perfectly apathetic. Honestly, looking back, the fact that she had ever been married to that man felt like the biggest stain on her permanent record.
"Love him? The mere thought of him makes me physically sick. What you consider the greatest prize in the world, Seraphina, is completely worthless to everyone else."
