The hospital door clicked shut. The tension in Nora's shoulders melted away as she sank back against the pillows, closing her eyes and taking a deep breath.
About half an hour later, the door swung open again. Xander was back, carrying a fresh change of clothes.
The moment he stepped inside, his sharp instincts kicked in. He swept a quick glance over the room before his eyes locked onto Nora's slightly furrowed brow. He set his bags down, walked straight to the bed, and checked her temperature with the back of his hand.
"What's wrong? You look pale."
Nora shook her head, looking utterly exhausted. "It's nothing. Finnegan was just here."
Xander's hand paused in mid-air. A flash of deadly coldness tore through his eyes, though he quickly masked it. "What did he want?"
"He wanted to reveal the 'secret' about his identity," Nora replied dryly.
She actually found it somewhat hilarious. "What on earth makes him think I'd still care about that after all this time?"
Xander's eyes darkened. "So... because he came by, you..."
Nora interrupted him, her eyes shining bright. "Xander, let's get our marriage license as soon as possible."
Xander's gaze instantly locked onto hers.
"I know I said we should wait," Nora continued smoothly. "But I don't feel like waiting anymore. Love doesn't always need time to prove itself. After nearly dying, everything just clicked into place. There's so much I haven't done yet, and I refuse to live with regrets. So, I don't want to wait. I want to do this immediately."
Xander lowered his head in silence for a few seconds before looking up at her with heavy, intense eyes. "Is this because of Finnegan?"
Nora blinked, completely unable to stop her lips from curving upward. "I said I wanted it fast, I didn't say that fast. Weren't you going to make a highly detailed itinerary? You decided just like that?"
Xander adjusted his glasses, his face a picture of deadly serious efficiency. "I've already mapped it out in my head. First, the paperwork. Once you're fully rested, the ceremony. Then, the honeymoon. As for the wedding venues, I filtered through a massive list while you were asleep last night. We can review the final options together once you're feeling better."
Nora giggled softly, accidentally tugging at her wounded shoulder again. "You are just so..."
Xander raised an eyebrow perfectly. "So what?"
Nora's eyes curved into crescents, a faint mist gathering in them. "So perfect."
Watching her smile, Xander felt that every single thing he had endured was completely worth it. He reached out and carefully pulled her into his arms, deliberately avoiding her injured arm, and rested his chin softly on the top of her head.
