Working completely without sleep, he spent ten agonizing days rooting out every single traitor. He hadn't let a single one slip away.
But the betrayal that left him the most exhausted was Seraphina Shaw's.
In the quiet of his office, he couldn't help but miss the old days. Whenever work had drained him, Nora used to stand behind him, gently massaging his shoulders and whispering softly in his ear.
"It's okay, Finn. I really think you're already doing an incredible job."
But now, that comforting voice was gone, never to be heard again.
He promised himself that once he fully resolved the corporate mess next week, he would reclaim his true identity and tell Nora everything. She would definitely be thrilled.
...
The next morning, Nora tried on several different outfits but wasn't satisfied with any of them. Today, Xander was taking her back to the family estate to formally visit Genevieve and Sebastian Harrison.
This visit was completely different from the last one; she needed to look flawless and formal. Every dress she pulled out felt lacking.
Xander walked over, reached into the closet, and pulled out a soft lilac dress. "This one will look great on you."
Nora took it skeptically and held it against her body in front of the mirror. It really did complement her complexion much better than the previous options.
"Since when do you know my wardrobe so well?"
Xander soaked up the praise, a satisfied smirk forming on his lips. "It was part of my pre-marital research."
She rolled her eyes at him, though she couldn't suppress the smile creeping onto her face.
Once she was dressed, they headed out. With Xander behind the wheel, Nora absentmindedly rubbed the diamond ring on her finger. Her palms were clammy with nerves.
The grand parlor fell dead silent for a moment. Genevieve frowned slightly in surprise. "So fast? Why didn't you kids tell us you were tying the knot? When did you even decide this?"
"It was planned half a month ago," Xander replied smoothly.
While Sebastian was highly satisfied with Nora as a daughter-in-law, Xander had completely bypassed them in making this decision. "Getting married and only coming back to tell us afterward isn't just about being inconsiderate. Xander, you're the head of the family now. Marriage is a massive milestone; it should have been discussed with us."
Xander offered a polite smile. "Isn't that exactly why we're here to discuss the wedding ceremony with you now?"
Genevieve was stunned again. "You're having a wedding this soon? When?"
"Next week," Xander answered.
Genevieve leaped up from the sofa in shock. "Next week? Son, are you joking? Have you planned any of this? You are the most meticulous person I know. How can you be so reckless when it comes to the most important event of your life?"
