I Was His Wife, Then His Widow, Then No One's But My Own novel Chapter 418

Nora burst out laughing at the adorable comparison. She leaned down, pulled the little girl close, and looked her up and down before giving her a genuine compliment.

"Our Bonnie looks incredibly beautiful today, too. You are the prettiest little fairy in the whole wide world."

Bonnie blushed, shyly scratching her head. Then, remembering her crucial role, she proudly pulled two wedding bands from her flower basket.

"Look! I get to give Mom and Dad the rings today! Grandma said it's the most important job, and only the best-behaved kids get to do it!"

Nora smiled and gently stroked her hair. "Grandma is absolutely right. It is the most important job, and you are the best-behaved kid."

Watching them, Genevieve beamed with pride.

Completely satisfied, Bonnie carefully placed the rings back into the basket but refused to leave Nora's side.

"Mom, it's so crowded out there. There are so many people I've never even met. I don't want to go back out... I just want to stay here with you."

Genevieve tried to coax her. "Bonnie, go check on your dad and see if the guests are giving him a hard time."

Bonnie waved it off unbothered. "Dad can handle himself. I want to stay with Mom."

"But you're the flower girl," Genevieve reminded her gently. "You and your mom have to make your grand entrances from different places, remember?"

Realization dawned on Bonnie, and she nodded with a dramatic sigh. "Okay, fine. I get it."

She was just turning to leave reluctantly when a servant knocked lightly and stepped into the room, looking highly conflicted.

"What is it?" Genevieve asked.

The servant thought for a second. "He looked to be on the older side."

Nora exhaled a quiet sigh of relief and exchanged a look with Genevieve. Genevieve nodded gently. "Let her in."

Moments later, Cassie was escorted into the room. For a split second, Nora almost didn't recognize her. The little girl had lost so much weight that her chin looked sharp, and the dark circles under her eyes made it clear she hadn't slept well in weeks.

She used to be the pampered little princess of the Fletcher family, but now she looked like someone who hadn't been cared for in a very long time.

The moment Cassie saw Nora, her eyes turned bright red, but she stubbornly held back her tears. She walked over slowly, her voice raspy. "Mom."

She called out tentatively, then lowered her head, her voice trembling. "I know everything now. Uncle Fred..."

She paused and corrected herself. "Dad told me everything. I also know that Seraphina didn't really care about me. Mom... do you still hurt?"
