I Was His Wife, Then His Widow, Then No One's But My Own novel Chapter 454

"What we need to do now isn't guess what he has in his hands, but turn the situation to our advantage."

Nora nodded. "I understand. Thank you for helping me analyze all this."

Xander smiled. "We are husband and wife now. If you keep talking to me like a stranger, I'm going to get my feelings hurt."

Nora laughed and placed a gentle kiss on his lips. "Is this better, Mr. Harrison?"

Xander's eyes crinkled with happiness, and the two headed home together.

Meanwhile, on the top floor of the Fletcher Group tower.

Finnegan Fletcher hadn't been home for three consecutive days. He sat at his desk, staring at the mountains of documents, his mind an absolute mess.

Dark circles shadowed his eyes, a clear sign of severe sleep deprivation. Over the past few days, the company's business ventures had been aggressively intercepted, and multiple bids had failed. It was as if someone was pulling strings in the dark to ruin him.

Finnegan wanted to track down the culprit, but he couldn't find a single lead. He even suspected Xander was using his power for a personal vendetta, but upon closer investigation, there was no evidence linking any of it to Xander.

Because of that, he was certain it wasn't Xander's doing. But Xander had previously sworn he wouldn't let things slide easily, leaving Finnegan feeling like he was running around in circles.

Just then, Liam Mercer knocked on the door and hurried inside. "Mr. Fletcher, bad news. Our latest bid failed again."

Finnegan was so used to it by now that he barely reacted. He lowered his head, pinching the bridge of his nose, his voice raspy.

"I know. Get back to work."

He couldn't accept it!

As if struck by a sudden realization, Finnegan pulled himself together. He absolutely refused to just hand Nora over to another man.

They had loved each other so deeply and weathered so many storms together. He refused to believe Nora could just easily abandon all their shared history and throw herself into someone else's arms.

Finnegan immediately grabbed his phone and pulled up Nora's contact. In that moment, he was desperate to hear her voice.

But the second the call connected, the cold, robotic voice of an automated message echoed through the speaker. His hand trembled, and he slammed the phone onto the desk with a loud crash.

He had forgotten. Nora had already blocked his number.
