I Was His Wife, Then His Widow, Then No One's But My Own novel Chapter 475

Although Clara looked decent with her flawless makeup and that signature, seductive beauty mark at the corner of her eye, there was an unprecedented anxiety knitting her brows—a look Nora had never seen on her before.

Clara had always been the type to shrug off the end of the world. Even when her company's stock plummeted by half due to a competitor's short-selling, she would just sit in the boardroom with her legs crossed, casually munching on an apple.

Whatever had her looking so panicked was definitely no small matter.

Once she got into the car, Clara went completely silent.

Xander glanced at the two women through the rearview mirror and exchanged a knowing look with Nora.

Neither of them said a word, waiting for Clara to speak up first.

Sure enough, the moment the car merged onto the highway, Clara couldn't hold it in any longer.

She ripped off her sunglasses and tossed them aggressively onto the empty seat beside her. Slumping back like a deflated balloon, she blurted out a sentence that nearly made Nora's jaw drop.

"I came back to find a man."

Silence blanketed the car for a second before Nora slowly turned her head, skepticism swimming in her eyes. "Excuse me?"

Clara pouted, her tone thick with frustration. "I'm looking for a man. He slept with me and then bolted!"

Xander was sitting right there in the driver's seat, yet she brought up the scandalous topic without an ounce of hesitation.

Nora coughed to cover her surprise, giving her friend a look of utter disbelief. "What goes through your head all day?"

Clara offered a helpless flutter of her hands. "What can I say? You know me."

Nora sighed heavily. "You didn't even get a good look at the guy's face. How are you supposed to find him now? Do you have any clues?"

The question seemed to ignite a spark in Clara. She sat up bolt straight and whipped out a sleek notebook. "I do. I've replayed the night a million times. He's not just some ordinary guy, I'm certain of that. First, he was covered in scars. Besides the one on his forehead, he had a massive, old scar stretching across the back of his shoulder. It didn't look like an everyday injury; it looked like a severe burn. Second, he spoke perfect English with our exact regional accent. I know for a fact he wasn't a local over there. But the most important detail of all..."

She paused for dramatic effect before continuing. "...was his watch. I searched the internet for ages and couldn't find anything like it. But last month, I accidentally stumbled across a financial news article, and one of the men in the photos was wearing the exact same timepiece!"
