Imprisoned While Pregnant, She's Back for Payback novel Chapter 573

"I already promised you."

Tess said flatly.

Hearing those words, Nicholas visibly relaxed.

He smiled with relief, even adopting a lighthearted, joking tone. "You're Henry's daughter."

For the first time, Tess's unchanging expression shifted. Her smooth brow furrowed. "No."

Nicholas's eyes kept studying Tess's face. After a long moment, he gradually withdrew his smile and said seriously, "You really don't look like him.

"So what do I do now?"

With the matter settled, Tess stood up. "Wait for my message. I'll contact you when it's time.

"For now, you'll stay with them."

As she spoke, she gestured toward Connor and Marc.

Nicholas first caught sight of the rough-around-the-edges Marc, and his lips twitched, only relaxing when his gaze landed on Connor.

After arranging their accommodations, the Nicholas couple left with Connor and Marc in their car. Raven and Lyra, who'd been up all night, also had no intention of staying longer.

Especially Raven.

She'd been checking her watch repeatedly, and Tess had noticed this little gesture.

"In a hurry?"

Just as Raven was about to close the door, Tess reached out to stop it.

Meeting Tess's gaze, Raven clearly didn't know quite what to say.

She pressed her lips together.

"Yeah, it's Lachlan."

Tess had obviously already guessed the reason. She made a soft sound of acknowledgment without saying anything more.

"Where's he staying now?"

Tess asked casually.

Thinking about it made Raven recall Lachlan's pathetic state.

She and Lyra had been close friends for years, to the point where they could talk about anything now.

But with Lachlan looking so hungover and wrecked, she really couldn't bring herself to discuss it with Lyra, his devoted fan.

Even as his friend, she found it embarrassing.

"Over there."

Raven covered her eyes and pointed at a tall building not far away.

The moment she saw it, Tess felt helpless too.

She'd told him to move out, but this short distance was practically the same as not moving at all.

"I don't know what exactly makes him so fixated on me, but to me, he's a complete stranger."

Tess raised her eyes to meet Raven's, her tone serious.

After the cautionary tale with Finn, she didn't want to get tangled up in romantic drama again.

Seeing Tess's earnest expression, Raven nodded solemnly. "I've already told him, and I'll pass that message along to him again.

"Go take care of him."

Tess opened the car door. "Get in first!"

Raven climbed in, panting heavily, her entire face covered in sweat from jogging.

She gritted her teeth in frustration. "That emotionally unstable idiot—who knows where he'd go off to in a fit!"

It was rare for Tess to see Raven lose her temper like this, and she realized the seriousness of the situation.

Her expression darkened. "Think carefully. You were the last one to see him, right? Could something you said have set him off?"

"Set him off? Everything I said was ... "

Raven laughed bitterly but suddenly cut herself off mid-sentence.

She fell silent, her face tense and expression grave.

"Tess, do you think he might have gone to find Finn?"

At those words, even Tess's usually calm composure faltered.

"Finn?"

She repeated the name, unable to hide her surprise.

What connection did Lachlan have with Finn, and why would he suddenly go looking for him?

Raven looked embarrassed. "I just remembered—his expression was a bit off at the time.

"I told him he didn't know anything about your past."

"So you think he went to find Finn to learn about my past?"

Tess's lips twitched. She still felt Raven's guess was completely far-fetched.
