Seraphina Sullivan kept walking into the distance.
She ventured farther and farther from the Shelter.
In the even dimmer areas she passed through, Seraphina unhesitatingly collected any monster corpse that was either relatively intact or held special value.
Soon, Seraphina arrived beside the enormous corpses of the three fallen Night Behemoths.
Looking up at these mountain-like corpses from close range, the visual impact was far more intense than it had been when viewing them from the Wall.
"They’re... absurdly huge!"
Seraphina couldn’t help but murmur in awe.
The carcasses of these behemoths clearly far exceeded the storage capacity of her Space. All she could do was sigh in resignation.
"What a pity. A body this big... if I could take it all, I wonder how long it would feed Flora..." Seraphina shook her head in regret and turned to leave, intending to collect other, more portable spoils.
However, just as she turned, her peripheral vision caught something. On the corpse of the Night Behemoth that had been partially petrified by The Silenti before its skull was shattered by Dustin Sullivan and Julian Shaw, a strange, extremely faint light flickered for an instant from within the fractured area—a light unlike that of blood or tissue.
Intrigued, Seraphina stopped in her tracks and cautiously approached.
Peering through the shattered, petrified muscle and bone, she saw a fist-sized, strange stone fragment emanating a faint glow embedded in what would have been the behemoth’s heart, or at least a similar core region.
Seeing something so out of place, Seraphina used Item Identification without hesitation.
[Cosmic Fragment]
Effect: A stone fragment containing a strange, unknown Energy!
’Cosmic Fragment?’ Seraphina’s pupils constricted.
Her mind immediately jumped to the origin of this Dark Apocalypse world.
The meteor shower fifty years ago that had brought the strange substance.
’Could this be a fragment from those meteorites? One of the root materials that caused the Dark Apocalypse and the biological mutations?’
The discovery made her heart race.
Without a moment’s hesitation, she carefully used a tool to pry the "Cosmic Fragment" from the behemoth’s carcass.
It was ice-cold to the touch, yet she could feel a vast and bizarre wave of Energy contained within.
She quickly stored it in her Space. This was an incredible, unexpected find!
Seraphina immediately ran to the other two Night Behemoth corpses. Sure enough, she found a similarly sized [Cosmic Fragment] in the core region of each one!
She repeated the process, adding all three fragments to her haul.
Just as she finished stowing away the third fragment, the system’s seven-day survival deadline was approaching, and the feeling of her impending return grew ever clearer.
Sean Chandler, who had remained on high alert guarding her side, twitched his ears, his gaze instantly turning fierce.
He whispered to Seraphina, "Careful! Someone’s approaching. They’re probably up to no good!"
Seraphina immediately furrowed her brow.
She, too, felt several gazes lock onto her from different directions, gazes filled with undisguised greed and malice.
At this, Seraphina sighed softly, her tone carrying a trace of weary sarcasm.
"It seems some people never learn. They want to make a big gamble in the final moments before our return, hoping to snatch the space item from my hands?"
Clearly, her large-scale collection of monster corpses and the suspected fact that she possessed high-capacity Space Equipment had attracted the attention of the greedy.
There were always people willing to take desperate risks at the last moment, hoping to seize this "fortune" for themselves.
Following Sean Chandler’s warning, four or five figures slowly emerged from the shadows at the edge of the battlefield. They had clearly been lying in wait for a long time.
The leader was a man with an ordinary face, but his eyes glinted with a sinister greed.
