If the extreme cold truly ended, the living conditions for everyone on Azure Star would undoubtedly improve a great deal.
But a moment later, her pragmatism reasserted itself.
She frowned slightly. ’The end of the extreme cold and the return of warmer weather is a good thing, of course. But... the apocalypse on Azure Star probably won’t end that easily, will it? Could a new natural disaster appear to replace the extreme cold?’
Hearing Seraphina Sullivan’s words, the joyful look on Justin Brooks’s face faded.
He sighed again and nodded.
"I didn’t expect you to be so perceptive. You’re right. The Player with the precognition Talent also saw a fragment of the more distant future. She predicted that after the extreme cold recedes, the global climate will swing from one extreme to another. Specifically..."
"Extreme heat," Seraphina Sullivan said.
"Exactly! But,"
Justin Brooks quickly adjusted his outlook, his voice firming up.
"Once the extreme cold is over, it at least means the problem of ice-blocked roads will be greatly alleviated. During the transitional period before the extreme heat arrives, we can establish contact with other safe zones and Survivor Bases much faster and build more effective partnerships. The other bases are sure to have many Players with unique Abilities. Once we share resources and technology, we’ll be much stronger and better equipped to face the next disaster."
Seraphina Sullivan nodded in agreement.
’Unity and cooperation are truly essential in the apocalypse.’
"Besides,"
Justin Brooks suddenly looked at Seraphina Sullivan, his gaze holding a profound meaning.
"Your Ability is also very special, Comrade Sullivan."
Seraphina Sullivan’s heart skipped a beat, but her expression remained unchanged.
’Justin Brooks is no fool.’
’He must have had his suspicions ever since I demonstrated that miraculous Suturing Skill.’
’He must have guessed that the one who sutured his severed leg and saved his life after he returned from that instance wasn’t the silent Sean Chandler, but me—the one who’d always acted like an ordinary person.’
’I probably became a Player a long time ago and just did a good job of hiding it.’
’Sean Chandler had always been my cover, which is why Justin initially thought it was all his doing.’
However, Justin Brooks had also observed that Seraphina Sullivan operated with principles. Not only did she refrain from harming others, but she had also stepped in to help on multiple occasions and had even saved his life.
Therefore, he had chosen to let it be, never probing further or exposing her secret.
Now that Seraphina Sullivan was an "official" Player, he had even less reason to say anything.
As they met each other’s gaze now, they both saw a silent, mutual understanding.
They exchanged a smile.
"By the way,"
Justin Brooks switched to a lighter topic.
"Those ’Growth Potatoes’ you provided earlier are working wonders! The plantation reported that both the yield and resilience far exceeded expectations, and they’re incredibly filling. The safe zone was able to roll out relief rations this quickly in no small part thanks to you. I really must thank you properly!"
Seraphina Sullivan smiled, her tone calm. "I’m just glad I could help. It’s the least I could do."
"Well, I’ll let you go then. I still have a lot to do."
Seraphina Sullivan nodded.
People were bustling about everywhere she looked. More and more of them had adapted to this way of life.
They were starting to find their place.
Carrying the weight of the bombshell news from Justin Brooks and a trace of lingering unease, Seraphina Sullivan returned to her RV.
