After consuming the flesh of the Titan Python, which was saturated with Aberrant Radiation, the ordinary pigeons began to mutate.
A vicious glint appeared in their eyes.
Their flight speed and stamina skyrocketed.
The most outrageous part was that they seemed to be accumulating some kind of extremely unstable, frenzied energy within their bodies.
Their entire bodies became like little living powder kegs, brimming with aggression.
They spent all day fluttering about, trying to burst out of the farm to "do battle"!
If it weren’t for Chubbs and Tubbs, who suppressed them with their absolute power and superior bloodline...
...and forcibly confined these agitated, mutated pigeons to a specific area.
Seraphina felt that a civil war, "The Silenti versus the Mutated Pigeons," would have inevitably broken out on her Scavenger’s Farm.
Although the pigeons had become difficult to control and full of uncertainty...
...in Seraphina’s eyes, they had also completely transformed from "carrier pigeons" into potential "bombing units."
If she deployed them, this flock of "bomb-pigeons" could definitely cause astonishing destruction amidst a zombie horde.
This thought gave Seraphina a bit more confidence for the upcoming battles.
At that moment, Dustin Sullivan had already steered the conversation back to the most pressing issue.
He looked at Seraphina Sullivan and Sean Chandler and asked, "After you entered the instance, did you encounter or find any special zombies? On our way here, we haven’t found anything besides a shocking number of common ones."
Seraphina nodded, pointing toward the distant square below. "We ran into one. We took it down in that square not long ago. It was a Power-type variant."
"Was it tough? How threatening was it compared to a regular zombie?"
Dustin pressed for more information; this was the intel he was most concerned about.
"Tough. Definitely tough." Seraphina’s expression was serious.
"Its defense and Power were far greater than a normal zombie’s, and..."
She paused. "It seemed to have some low-level intelligence or tactical instinct. It knew to drive a large number of common zombies to surround and wear us down first, rather than just mindlessly charging in."
This information made the expressions of both Dustin and Julian Shaw grow grim.
An intelligent enemy is always harder to deal with than a powerful beast.
After hearing this, Julian Shaw found a relatively clean spot and, with a complete lack of decorum, flopped down on his back.
He gazed up at the false yet beautiful starry sky above.
He let out a long sigh. "Ugh... We have to survive in this hellhole for a month and kill more zombies than we can count, but we don’t even get any decent, immediate rewards. It’s so hard to get motivated. The system is way too cheap. It should at least toss us some experience points as a reward."
His complaint was tinged with exhaustion and helplessness, but it also spoke to the truth of their situation.
Long-term, high-pressure combat and survival challenges without periodic positive feedback would severely wear down a person’s will.
"Let’s grab some rest while it’s still relatively safe."
Dustin’s voice carried a hint of imperceptible exhaustion.
"I have a feeling that from now on, we’ll probably never have a truly peaceful moment again."
After speaking, he also found a corner sheltered from the wind, sat down with his back against the Wall, and closed his eyes.
His breathing soon became long and steady as he entered a state of efficient, light rest.
Seeing this, Julian Shaw, Trevor Tanner, and Coco Sullivan also found their own spots, sitting or leaning, to take advantage of this rare period of relative safety to recover their strength and stamina.
Seraphina and Sean Chandler, long accustomed to this rhythm, took turns keeping watch.
For a time, the only sounds on the rooftop were the whimpering of the night wind and the unending roars of distant zombies.
It even made the remaining glass on the top floor of the skyscraper hum and vibrate.
