But Seraphina Sullivan’s face showed no trace of fear.
"Nightmare God’s Favored? The strongest in the dream realm?"
She repeated Dex’s words, a light swirling in her scarlet eyes, carrying a sense of condescending scrutiny and mockery.
"Sorry, but in my presence, you creatures from the gutter..."
She raised a hand, fingers spread, and with a gentle wave, faced the surging black tide.
"—all of you, turn into delicious food. At least then you’ll be good for something."
The [Pastry Chef] Profession Skill activated—[Sticky Frost Sugar]!
There was no earth-shattering commotion.
Only a cloud of extremely fine dust, shimmering with a dreamy, pale pink light.
As if carried by an invisible wind, it gently drifted out from the direction she had waved, instantly spreading over a large area in front of her.
The pink dust looked beautiful and harmless, even carrying a sweet fragrance.
However, anything the dust touched—whether it was the baring-fanged, pouncing nightmares, the screaming Low Rank minions, or Dex and his teammates standing in the rear preparing to use other Skills, including the ornate carpet beneath their feet and the very air itself—all of it came to a sudden halt!
A layer of translucent, yet exceptionally sticky and tough, pink Sugar Frosting rapidly formed on their bodies.
"Ugh?! What the hell is this stuff?!"
"I-I can’t move!"
"My feet are stuck! Is this sugar?! It’s syrup!"
Dex was both shocked and enraged.
He tried to move, only to find his feet were firmly fixed to the ground, as if mired in the deepest, stickiest tar pit.
He struggled to raise a hand to cast a spell.
But his arm was quickly covered in a thick, sticky, pink sugar shell.
It made his movements incredibly slow and heavy.
His teammates cried out in alarm one after another.
Someone tried to hack at the sugar shell with a weapon, only to send more sugar flakes flying.
The shell seemed to have a life of its own, constantly regenerating and strengthening.
"Boss! Look over there!!"
A teammate, half of his body stuck fast, pointed toward the onrushing tide of nightmares, his voice filled with unconcealable terror.
Dex struggled to turn his head. What he saw next was a scene that would be seared into his memory for the rest of his life—one that might even become his new nightmare:
After the nightmares at the very front touched the pink dust and were immobilized by [Sticky Frost Sugar], Seraphina’s figure cut in among them like a phantom.
She didn’t even use the [Demon Eyes] Spirit Attack.
She simply extended a seemingly fair, slender finger and lightly tapped a nightmare encased in the sugar shell.
Talent: [Magic Cuisine] activated!!
POP! SQUISH! SIZZLE—
A series of soft sounds was accompanied by a flash of bizarre light.
The Split-Mouth Clown nightmare’s twisted body rapidly swelled and deformed.
It turned a crispy, golden-brown, transforming into a giant, grotesque sandwich cookie shaped like a clown’s face that seemed to be fixed in a silent, savage grin, the cracks in its Sugar Frosting resembling greasepaint.
Clayton Quinn’s shadow clone collapsed and condensed, becoming a black lava chocolate cake that constantly oozed black syrup.
The other Low Rank Nightmare Minions transformed into all sorts of strange things.
Some became eyeball macarons skewered with twisted candy canes.
Some turned into cream puff towers oozing with purple jam.
Others simply collapsed into a large, bubbling puddle of caramel pudding.
