Then the second aura came.
Where THE Relictus’s descent had been measured and composed, the second arrival came with the energy of something that had been in the middle of a very different activity and had been pulled away from it by a call it couldn’t refuse.
Obsidian flames cleared across a descending form, the fire burning away the traces of whatever the prior battle had demanded as the being transitioned from what the adversity had required of them back toward the form they moved through calmer circumstances in.
The flames died.
A titan stood in the sky above THE Early Veiled Shore wreathed in the obsidian flames of THE Primordial Source.
His titanic humanoid form was carrying the development of every adversity he had moved through, the obsidian crowns above his head burning with their own internal light, the four horns and the nine tails and the full breadth of what Exelissomai’s repeated usage across eons had produced present in every dimension of his bearing.
His obsidian eyes found Noah.
He looked at the blade in Noah’s hand. He looked at the nine Prime Cause lights burning through the Osmontian Infinite Physique. He looked at the obsidian sea churning above them both, at THE Infiniverse’s Early Veiled Shore trembling beneath the Environmental Pressure of what was building.
He was astonished.
Noah looked up at THE Creature!
He was astonished too!
Biotic Pressure One: Calypso. THE Relictus. Classification: Source Lifeform. Scale: Fourth? Fourth. Calypso was engaged in adversity within THE Undefined Gaps against Gilded lifeforms at the moment of the call. She has answered.
Biotic Pressure Two: THE Creature. Classification: Source Lifeform. Scale: Close to Fourth? Maybe. THE Creature was engaged in adversity within THE Undefined Gaps against Gilded lifeforms at the moment of the call. He has answered.
Both Biotic Pressures have understood that the call of THE Primordial Tongue’s Prime Letter represents mutual evolutionary opportunity. An Evolutionary Arms Race has been established between you, THE Creature, and Calypso. Your evolution drives theirs. Their evolution drives yours. The pressure is mutual and the benefit is mutual. The Arms Race will conclude when the Prime Exelissomai period ends.
In all the circumstances under which he had imagined encountering THE Creature again, this had not been among them.
Neither of them had expected to find each other here, in THE Infiniverse’s most beloved space, called together by a Prime Letter of THE Primordial Tongue into a mutual Evolutionary Arms Race while THE Primordial Source churned above them in an obsidian sea.
THE Creature’s expression moved through the astonishment and arrived at something else.
Something that, on the ancient brutal features of an existence that had torn itself apart and rebuilt across eons of adversity, looked very much human.
The golden sands trembled.
The obsidian sea churned!
Noah floated upward from the golden sands and came level with THE Creature.
Looking at him this close was a different experience from looking at him across the distance of a prior encounter. Every ounce of time THE Creature had spent in adversity since their last meeting had left its record on what he was, the development visible in the density of the obsidian flames surrounding him, in the way the nine crowns above his head burned with internal light!
"I did not expect this from THE Primordial Tongue," Noah said. He looked at THE Creature with calm directness. "You seemed to be in the middle of something else."
THE Creature looked at him.
"I was in the middle of adversity," he said. Each word carrying the ancient measured weight that his voice always carried.
"Now I am simply in a different adversity. That is not a new condition for me." He paused.
"But this...THE Youngest grasping THE Primordial Tongue, us standing here together... existence continues to be unpredictable in the directions that matter."

"I sensed something of Observable Existence. What happened?"
"The Gilded Ones effectively nuked Observable Existence," he said. "Nothing that was not contained in my home survived. All lifeforms have been turned into Existential Acedia Dredges. No cognizance. No will. Countleds of them."
