Chapter 5419: Tides of Quintessential Change! II

Noah shook his head and let go of THE Creature, and the two of them drifted back to a slight distance, their Intents still buzzing and crackling in the space between them like weapons of mass destruction set down but not disarmed.

They floated opposite each other like two menacing titans. Noah wrapped in his lava-like blue flames, the cerulean welling and dripping off him in slow molten waves. THE Creature shrouded in his lava-like obsidian flames, vast and dark and burning, the obsidian sword-illusion still faintly visible in the air behind him. Two beings who had just cracked gigaparsecs of existence between their palms and then hugged about it, now sizing each other up across the chaotic dark of the Sanctum.

"Every single time," Noah said calmly, "I have to reevaluate my whole sense of what’s possible when it comes to you. I keep thinking I’ve got the ceiling figured out, and you keep being somewhere above it."

THE Creature’s burning eyes settled on him.

"Me?" he said. "You are the one growing exceedingly fast, Youngest. Especially that Intent of yours. Think about what it’s built on. An Akashic Civilizational Intent draws on a being’s records, and the older and more experienced a being is, the easier they find it to establish their identity, because they have had ages to understand exactly who they are. You are the opposite of that. Young, and racing, and already standing where I stand." The flames around him pulsed.

"It’s good. It is good. Existence needs more anomalies for what’s coming. It needs every mutation and accident it can get its hands on, every thing that wasn’t supposed to happen happening anyway. The clean and the expected won’t be enough." He let the thought sit. "Do what you came here to do, since you’re here. I’ve been somewhat debriefed on something they want the two of us to do together, though everyone seems to be choosing to stay very quiet about exactly what it is."

The words carried an ominous weight, and Noah only smiled.

"It’s a hunt," he said. "For the waking pieces of THE Sealed One. That’s the thing nobody wants to say out loud."

BOOM!

He said it casually, and THE Creature paused.

For a moment the vast burning figure went still, and his eyes glimmered with an unfathomable brilliance, something old and considering moving behind them. Then he spoke.

"Existence is vast," THE Creature said, "and full of terrors." It was the same line THE Queen Regnant had used!

"And an Adversity like THE Sealed One. There truly could be no better one to stimulate growth. A being does not grow against the weak. A being grows against the thing that should kill him." The obsidian flames flared.

"Okay. You go ahead and get started here. I have a few things to finish first, back in THE Braneworld. Closure is a good thing, and my closure there is the scorching of the Gilded Ones who allowed such a horrid culture to grow and spread and call itself order. I have unfinished business with that whole rotten arrangement." His voice lowered. "I will be back."

HUUM!

His titanic figure began to shroud itself in obsidian light, dissolving toward departure, and behind him Calypso bellowed out in her massive beast form.

"Ah, you tepid fucker, wait!" she roared, and lunged to follow.

"No, he left!" she cried, throwing her hands up. "Ah, I wanted to see more of him! Veris-Gloom, I didn’t know you were familiar with that monster. We’ve only just started hearing about him, you know, whispers, this Existence-thing prowling around. Who even is he to you? How long have you known him? Is he always like that? Does he always just leave in the middle of things? Because that was rude, honestly, I had questions, I had a whole, I was going to ask him to spar, and he just-"
