By lunch, the entire school had already seen it..
There were at least five different versions of the video floating around.
Il the same moment.
Different angles, different captions – all
Jessa knees Daniel in the balls.
I wasn’t gonna lie it was satisfying as hell to watch.
Especially since Daniel’s pained grunt was now the most replayed sound on everyone’s phones.
Even better? No one was laughing at Jessa this time.
They were laughing with her.
It felt like the world had flipped overnight.
For years, Daniel ran his mouth, picking people apart for attention.
Now, he couldn’t even walk straight without someone humming “Eye of the Tiger.”

I spotted Jackson sitting with Mariah near the back of the cafeteria. They looked… different now. Comfortable. Like they’d found some middle ground between fire and calm. Jackson even looked relaxed, which was weirdly rare for him lately.
And then I saw Jessa.
She was at the same table, across from Mariah, laughing. Actually laughing- not the polite kind, but real, head- tilted–back laughter that made her eyes light up.
It caught me off guard.
She looked happy.
And maybe that shouldn’t have made my stomach twist the way it did, but it did.
I grabbed my tray and made my way over.
Jackson saw me first and grinned. “Hey, man. You see the morning show?”
“Morning show?” I asked.
“Jessa vs. Daniel,” he said. “Best thing I’ve seen all year.
I smirked. “Yeah, that was a solid hit. He’ll be walking funny till graduation.”

Chapter 115
Jessa rolled her eyes. “You guys make it sound like I planned it.”
“You didn’t?” Mariah teased. “Because from the way you timed it, it looked choreographed.”
Jessa laughed again, cheeks flushed. “Okay, yeah -I had great aim.”
Jackson raised his water bottle toward her. “To my sister, defender of justice.”
She clinked her cup against his. “You’re just glad I didn’t knee you.”
He smirked. “Yeah, not giving you that opportunity.”
The whole table burst out laughing. It felt… good.
Normal.
For once, no tension, no pity, no awkward silence hanging over everything.

I leaned back in my chair, taking it all in the sound of Mariah teasing Jackson, the way Jessa smiled when she wasn’t trying to disappear, the way people at nearby tables were watching her but not in that cruel way they used to.
More like they were impressed.
I found myself smiling without meaning to.
Jessa caught me staring and arched a brow. “What?”
“Nothing,” I said quickly, then shrugged. “Just glad someone finally shut Daniel up.
She smirked. “Guess he had it coming.”
“More like begging for it,” I said. “And you didn’t miss.”
Jackson grinned. “Nah, she’s got a linebacker’s precision.”
“Gee, thanks,” Jessa said dryly, but there was a playful edge to her tone.
I leaned forward. “No, seriously. That took guts.”
She hesitated, meeting my eyes for a second too long.
Then she smiled–small, genuine. “Thanks, Noah.”
It did something to me I didn’t expect – like something tight in my chest eased just a little.
The cafeteria noise swelled around us–trays clattering, kids shouting across tables, someone laughing too loud in the comer. But at our table, everything felt easy.
Jackson was telling Mariah about how Coach texted him that morning to “keep it together” because “this school

doesn’t need more drama.”
She rolled her eyes and said, “Please, you’re the drama,” and he laughed, no offense taken.
that bittersweet kind of look when you’re happy for
Jessa watched them with a small smile that I recognized someone else but don’t quite know what to do with your own feelings.
She looked down at the half–empty salad. “I had breakfast.”
know,” I said, “for what it’s worth, you handled all of this better than I would’ve.”
She studied me, her expression softening, “I was tired of being quiet.”
“Good,” I said quietly. “You shouldn’t be.”
She looked down at her hands, twisting a ring on her finger. “It’s weird, though. Everyone keeps saying I’m some kind of hero for standing up to him. But I didn’t do it to make a point. I just… snapped.”
“Doesn’t matter why,” I said. “Sometimes the best moments happen when you stop thinking and just act.” Her lips curved into a faint smile. “You mean like you punching Daniel at the party?”
I chuckled. “Exactly like that.”
