Everywhere else, the demonic cultivators were collapsing just as fast.
The celestials barely outnumbered them, but nearly half the demon side had already lost the ability to fight.
The ones still standing were covered in wounds and running on fumes. They couldn't hold back the celestial assault anymore.
In less than fifteen minutes, three more demonic cultivators went down.
The bald giant roared and tried to charge over to save them, but the middle-aged man drove him back with a single slash.
"Don't be in such a hurry."
The middle-aged man let out a cold laugh. "One at a time. You'll get your turn soon enough."
The bald giant's eyes were bloodshot, his teeth grinding so hard they clicked.
He knew it now. He might really die here today.
But he couldn't accept it.
They had paid too much already. They had fought too hard, lost too many brothers, and they had been this close to taking down the Lava Lion King—only for the celestials to show up at the last moment.
He would rather have died under the Lava Lion King's claws than at celestial hands.
At least if a demon beast killed him, it would have been a warrior's death.
If the celestials killed him, it would be humiliation.
Then the entire battlefield shifted.
Whether the Lava Lion King had been provoked by the celestials' saintlight flame or sensed something else, it suddenly went berserk.
Its body swelled in an instant.
The flames along its scales deepened from crimson to dark gold, and the single horn on its forehead burst into blazing white fire.
It was the creature's last-ditch secret art—burning its life-nascence to force its strength above Golden Immortal Level Four for a short time.
Once it used that move, its vitality would be drained on a massive scale. Even if it survived, it would be weakened for years—maybe decades.
But at that moment, it couldn't afford to care.
It threw back its head and roared.
The shockwave was several times stronger than before. Cracks spiderwebbed across the rock walls ringing the valley basin, and broken stone came raining down.
Celestial and demon cultivators alike were knocked staggering by the roar. A few of the weaker ones bled from all seven orifices and crumpled to the ground on the spot.
In the middle of the chaos, the Lava Lion King lunged for the valley exit.
It was trying to escape.
"Stop it!" the middle-aged man shouted, already launching himself after the Lava Lion King.
If he could capture a Lava Lion King alive and present it to the Ember God Palace, he would jump at least three ranks and earn a personal reward from the Court Master.
There was no chance he was letting that opportunity slip away.
The bald giant gave chase too.
He wanted only one thing—the beast core.
That was what he had traded more than a dozen brothers' lives for. He was not about to let the celestials take it.
Celestial and demon cultivators surged after the Lava Lion King at the same time, and the whole scene dissolved into chaos.
The Lava Lion King had gone berserk, but it was still badly wounded. It was nowhere near as fast as it had been at its peak.
It had barely reached the valley exit when the middle-aged man caught up and slashed its back.
Golden saintlight flame exploded across its scales, scorching a swath of the dark red armor black.
The Lava Lion King bellowed in pain, wheeled around, and pounced on the middle-aged man. Its horn, wrapped in blazing white fire, speared straight for his chest.
He was too slow to fully evade.
The horn grazed across his left arm, and the white fire instantly burned the entire arm into charred black ruin.
His scream tore out of him as he was sent flying backward.
He slammed into the ground hard.
The bald giant seized the opening and charged straight at the Lava Lion King. He got in front of it, raised his war axe high, and hacked for its neck.
Everything he had went into that swing—every ounce of strength, every drop of blood essence. Dark red primal fire gathered along the axe's edge and stretched into a 3-foot blade of light as it came down with unstoppable force.
The axe bit into the Lava Lion King's neck.
Dark-golden blood erupted in a spray and splashed across the bald giant's face.
The Lava Lion King let out a shriek so raw it scraped the air. Its body twisted violently, and the bony hammer at the end of its tail slammed hard into the bald giant's chest.
