Jared chance novel Chapter 6622

Bitterness appeared on the middle-aged man's face.

"We are from Clearwind Village nearby. The demon hounds have been expanding their range recently. They often come close to the village and attack our people. The village chief sent us to investigate their movements, locate their den if possible, and find a way to drive them away or destroy them."

He glanced at the nine cultivators behind him and smiled helplessly.

"We ran into one right after we entered their territory. We fought it for half a day and could not even cut through its hide. With our strength, we cannot handle demon hounds."

The nine cultivators came over as well, all wearing the relief of people who had narrowly survived.

Each of them was injured. One had a deep claw wound across his arm. Blood streamed down as he used spiritual power to stop it.

"Captain, it did not follow us, right?" a young cultivator asked nervously.

The middle-aged man shook his head. "It should not have. Demon hounds usually do not leave their territory too far. We have already run more than thirty miles. We should be safe."

The words had barely left his mouth when a low growl sounded nearby.

Everyone's face turned pale.

That was a demon hound.

More than one.

The middle-aged man's pupils shrank. His whole body tensed, and the flames on his crimson longblade surged upward.

"Formation!" he shouted. "Back to back! Circle!"

The nine cultivators moved at once, forming a tight ring with their backs together. Their weapons pointed outward, and every face carried a grim, do-or-die resolve.

Growls rose from beneath the ground.

The earth shook.

Soil rolled.

Stone fragments burst outward.

Then more than a dozen black figures broke through the earth and surrounded them.

Demon hounds.

Thirteen in total.

Each one was about the size of the beast from before. Thirteen Golden Immortal Level Five auras pressed down together like an invisible mountain.

Their blood-red eyes fixed on the group. Drool fell from their mouths. Low growls rolled from their throats, as if they were calling more of their kind.

The middle-aged man's face lost all color.

Thirteen demon hounds.

Thirteen Golden Immortal Level Five demon beasts.

There were only ten of them. He was the only Golden Immortal Level Five. The others were Level Four. Adding two outsiders at Level One and Level Three changed nothing.

They could not win.

They might not even escape.

His lips shook. Despair filled his eyes.

"It's over..." he whispered, the strength leaving his voice. "We are done..."

The nine cultivators looked just as hopeless. Their weapons trembled in their hands.

Some started crying.

Some shut their eyes and waited.

Some murmured prayers under their breath.

The middle-aged man drew a long breath, then turned to Jared and Gwendolyn.

"You two, listen carefully."

His voice suddenly grew steady, steady in the way only a man prepared to die could sound. "We will hold them off. When you see a gap, run. Run as far as you can. Go to Clearwind Village and tell the village chief that there are far more demon hounds than we thought. Tell him to take everyone away. They cannot stay there anymore."

He paused and gave a bitter smile.

"We are not making it back. But you still might."

Jared looked at him without expression.

"Are you done?"

The middle-aged man froze.

He could not understand why Jared would say that at a time like this.
