Chapter 101
Iris’s POV
I arrived at the city hall twenty minutes early, standing outside the
imposing stone building with my hands tucked into my coat pockets.
The morning air felt crisp and clean, carrying the faint scent of coffee
from a nearby cafe. For the first time in weeks, I felt almost light-
headed with anticipation. Freedom was just one signature away.
Finally. After all this time, I can end this fake werewolf marriage and
start over.
I checked my phone again, scrolling back to the brief conversation
Sebastien and I had yesterday. His cold agreement to meet me here
had surprised me. After weeks of evasion and games, he’d simply said
“fine” when I suggested finalizing our divorce today.
“Easier than I expected,” I murmured to myself, watching a young
couple walk hand–in–hand up the city hall steps. “Maybe he’s finally
tired of the charade too.”
My wolf stirred restlessly inside me, clearly not sharing my
enthusiasm about severing our bond.

Chapter 101
The sound of tires on pavement drew my attention to the street.
Sebastien’s black SUV pulled up to the curb with military precision.
My heart did an unwelcome little jump at the sight of it, which
annoyed me immensely. Weeks pregnant apparently meant my
hormones were completely unreliable.
I watched him exit the vehicle, his movements fluid and controlled.
He wore a charcoal gray suit that probably cost more than my entire
wardrobe, his face set in that impassive mask I’d grown to hate. No
sign of the erratic behavior he’d displayed the last time we were
supposed to sign papers.
God, he’s infuriating even when he’s just standing there.
I didn’t wait for him to approach me. Instead, I turned and walked
straight into the building, hearing his measured footsteps following
behind. I refused to look back at him. This was the end of our story,
and I wasn’t going to give him the satisfaction of seeing any emotion
on my face.
The interior of the city hall was cooler than outside, the marble floors
gleaming under fluorescent lights. I headed directly to the werewolf
affairs section, hidden behind an unassuming door marked “Special
Records.” The human receptionist at the main desk didn’t even glance
our way–she’d been compelled long ago not to notice werewolves
coming and going.

“I know the way,” I said over my shoulder, not caring if Sebastien was
listening. “I’ve been here before, remember? When you suddenly
changed your mind.”
He didn’t respond, which irritated me even more.
The special records section looked exactly the same as last time.
Werewolf receptionists with keen senses that could detect lies,
soundproof walls, and ancient werewolf symbols carved subtly into
the wooden trim. I recognized the same middle–aged female werewolf
at the desk, her eyes widening slightly at the sight of us.
“Hello again,” I said, my voice firm and clear. “We’re here to dissolve
our werewolf mating bond.”
I felt a small spark of satisfaction at saying the words so directly. No
hesitation, no room for misunderstanding. The receptionist’s eyes
flicked from me to Sebastien, clearly remembering our previous visit’s
disastrous outcome.
“I see,” she said carefully. “And you’re both… in agreement this time?”
“Yes,” I answered immediately, then held my breath, half–expecting
Sebastien to contradict me again.
To my surprise, he nodded curtly. “Yes. Let’s get this over with.”

Something about his easy agreement made my wolf senses prickle
with suspicion. This was the same man who had been playing mind
games for weeks, who had abruptly abandoned our last attempt to
finalize the divorce. Why the sudden change?
The receptionist looked uncertain for a moment, then led us to a
small room with a heavy wooden table. She brought out a special
parchment document–werewolves were annoyingly traditional about
important records–and placed it before us.
“This will officially dissolve your mating bond,” she explained. “Both
parties must sign willingly. There’s a 24–hour processing period, after
which the dissolution becomes final.”
I picked up the pen, ready to sign immediately, but paused when I saw
Sebastien already writing his name in smooth, confident strokes. His
complete willingness threw me off balance. I’d expected resistance,
delays, or at least one of his cryptic comments.
For a split second, I caught something in his eyes—a calculating
gleam that vanished so quickly I almost thought I’d imagined it. But
my wolf knew better. Sebastien Grey never did anything without a
reason.
Why is he suddenly so eager to end things? What is he planning?

I pushed the thought aside and signed my name below his. The
parchment seemed to shimmer slightly as I finished, a subtle
indication of the werewolf magic acknowledging our decision.
“That’s it?” I asked, unable to keep the surprise from my voice.
“That’s it,” the receptionist confirmed. “The council will process this
today, and by tomorrow morning, your bond will be officially
dissolved.”
We left the room in silence, walking through the marble hallway side
by side without touching. The tension between us felt almost
physical, a barrier of cold air separating our bodies.
Outside the building, I finally turned to face Sebastien, determined to
have the last word.
“So that’s it. No more pretending to be mates.” I tried to keep my
voice neutral, but a hint of bitterness crept in.
