I followed it, winding through groups of chattering werewolves until I spotted them near the preparation area. Iris was standing close to Ethan, her head tilted up toward him as she laughed at something he said.
Something primitive and possessive clawed at my chest. She was wearing that sweater again, the one from the mall that made her pale skin glow. Ethan was leaning in, speaking into her ear, his hand resting lightly on her lower back.
‘The traditional hunt begins in thirty minutes!” an announcer called out, drawing my attention momentarily. “Competitors, please make your final
preparations!”
I overheard a group of spectators nearby.
“This hunt is going to be special, one man.explained to his companion. “It’s a Full moon tradition. Competitors track and capture animals that have been
released into the designated zone.”
“Different animals are worth different points, another added. “The silver fox is the highest prize. First one to bring it back wins.”
I watched as Ethan placed his hand on Iris’s shoulder. “Would you like to see the preparation area?” he asked her. “You can get a closer view from there.”
She nodded, following him without hesitation, still not noticing my presence.
“Don’t worry, the hunting grounds are perfectly safe,” Ethan assured her. “You can watch the whole process up close.”
My lips curled into a cold smile. So Lowell thought he was some big–shot hunter, did he? Had he forgotten that the Grey pack had dominated these hunts for generations before his family even earned their territory?
I made my decision in an instant, striding toward the registration area.
“Alpha Grey, the registration official stammered, clearly surprised to see me. “We… weren’t expecting you today.”
I’m participating, I stated flatly, showing my family’s sigil.
His eyes widened. “Of course, of course. As per ancient tradition, any Alpha or heir from a founding family may join any hunt. He hastily prepared my entry
documents.
Within minutes, I was changing into hunting gear, my focus absolute. I could sense the ripple of whispers spreading through the crowd as word of my
unexpected participation spread.
When I emerged from the changing area, I immediately sought out Iris and Ethan. They were standing at the observation platform, Ethan pointing out features of the hunting ground to her. I watched the exact moment when Iris finally noticed me- her eyes widened, het lips parted in surprise. Something
like satisfaction curled through me at her reaction.
Ethan noticed her distraction and followed her gaze. When he spotted me, his relaxed posture stiffened, his eyes narrowing slightly

Chapter 160
I quickly caught up to Ethan, who’d taken an early lead. I matched his pace, sometimes falling slightly behind, sometimes pulling ahead. A psychological game–let him think he’s winning, then snatch victory at the last moment.
From the corner of my eye, I could see Iris watching from the observation platform, her expression a mixture of shock and something else I couldn’t quite
identify.
Ethan increased his speed, desperate to shake me off. I let him think he was succeeding, hanging back just enough to make him believe he had the
advantage.
