Chapter 164

He nodded. Drive safely going home,I added as I stepped out of the car. And thanks again for dinner.

See you soon,he replied with a warm smile that reached his eyes.

I watched him drive away before heading to the elevator. Once inside my apartment, I didn’t bother turning on the lights, Instead, I walked straight to the floortoceiling windows, staring out at the twinkling city below.

My mind kept returning to that photograph. The resemblance was too striking to be coincidental. People always said everyone has a doppelgänger somewhere in the world, but this feltdifferent. More significant.

This is ridiculous,I muttered to myself, pulling my phone from my purse. I scrolled through my contacts and hit dial.

Rachel? I need you to look into something for me,I said when my friend answered. I’ll send you an email with the details. How soon can you get back to me?

After giving Rachel instructions to investigate Ethan’s aunt, I hung up and composed a detailed email, then sent it with a sense of urgency I couldn’t quite explain.

I woke up unusually early the next morning, my body clock seemingly rewired by pregnancy hormones. Stretching, I padded to the kitchen and opened the refrigerator, frowning at its sparse contents.

My appetite’s definitely changed,I murmured to myself, noting how quickly I’d gone through the meat I’d bought just days ago.

Pregnancy and werewolf metabolism combined were no joke. Need to stock up more on weekends.

After a quick shower, I dressed casually in jeans and a loose sweater, grabbed my purse, and headed out to the nearby supermarket. The

store was relatively empty this early on a Saturday, which suited me perfectly. I loaded my cart with essentials, focusing particularly on

proteinrich foods that my body seemed to crave constantly now.

With the food shopping done, I found myself wandering past the baby section. I slowed, drawn by tiny onesies and soft blankets displayed on the shelves. My hand reached out of its own accord, fingers gently caressing a small white sleeper with little gray wolves printed on it.

These are our newest arrivals,a cheerful sales associate approached me. You have that glow about youyou’ll make a wonderful

mother.

I pulled my hand back quickly. Oh, thank you, but I’m just browsing. Not ready for these yet.

The woman smiled knowingly but didn’t push. Well, whenever you are ready, these items tend to sell out quickly.

I nodded politely and moved on, but not before casting one last glance at the baby clothes. Despite my words to the saleswoman, the reality of my pregnancy was starting to sink in. Two little lives growing inside me. Not just abstract concepts anymore, but future people with tiny wolf onesies and blankets.
