The Moonshade Bay Grand Hotel was ablaze with lights when my car pulled up to the entrance, I took a deep breath, squared my shoulders, and stepped out, immediately feeling the weight of dozens of eyes turning in my direction.
I held my head high as I walked into the ballroom, pretending not to note the whispers that followed me. Years of navigating wolf society had taught me how to maintain a facade of calm dignity, even when I could her every hurtful word.
“Isn’t that Iris Stone?”
“Alone again. Looks like the rumors are true…”
“I heard Sebastien Grey is filing for divorce…”

I accepted a glass of sparkling water from a passing waiter, pretending it was champagne. The crystal flute gave my hands something to do as I
circulated through the room, exchanging polite greetings with acquaintances while avoiding deeper conversations.
Suddenly, the atmosphere in the room shifted. A collective intake of breath, a ripple of movement as heads turned toward the entrance. I didn’t
need to look to know who had arrived, but I did anyway.
Sebastien stood in the doorway, devastatingly handsome in a perfectly tailored black suit. Beside him was a woman in a white dress that seemed slightly too–tight around the ankles, making her walk awkwardly.
I watched as Sebastien deliberately scanned the room, his gaze skipping over me as if I were invisible. The snub was intentional and public. A clear message to everyone watching: Iris Stone meant nothing to him.
The whispers grew louder.
“See? He already has someone new.”
“Poor Iris, no wonder she looks so desperate tonight.”
“That dress is a bit much, don’t you think? Trying too hard…”
I gripped my glass tighter, forcing my expression to remain neutral even as hurt and anger churned inside me. Is this what he wanted? To humiliate me in front of everyone?
‘Well, well, well. If it isn’t Iris Stone, all alone again.”
