Jealousy Alpha’s Regret

Chapter 185

Iris’s POV

¥59%

I stared at my phone screen, Jennifer Watson’s message glowing back at me with a fake sincerity that made me want to laugh.

Iris, how are you holding up? Just heard the news about the Lowell family. Would love to catch up sometime if you’re free! No hard feelings about the

past, right?

No hard feelings? Was she serious? This was the same Jennifer who had snickered behind my back at every werewolf gathering, who’d whispered blood muttwhen I walked past her table at the full moon celebrations. The same woman who’d laughed the loudest when Megan had accidentallyspilled wine on my dress at the Winter Solstice Ball last year.

Well, well, well,I muttered to myself, settling deeper into my couch. Suddenly I’m worth talking to.

I scrolled through the other notifications flooding my phone. Friend requests, messages, commentsall from people who hadn’t given me the time of day before. People who’d looked right through me at events or actively participated in Megan’s campaign to make me feel like an

outsider.

I tossed my phone onto the cushion beside me and turned my attention back to the jewelry design I’d been working on. This pendant design was importantit would be my first submission as a Lowell, though I hadn’t planned it that way. The irony wasn’t lost on me.

These people really are something else,I said to my empty apartment. When they thought I was just a Stone, I wasn’t worth acknowledging. Now that I’m a Lowell, they can’t send messages fast enough.

I decided not to respond to any of them. Jennifer Watson could wait forever for my reply.

The next morning, I walked into Crescent Design just like any other daysame time, same route, same coffee in hand. But the moment I pushed through the glass doors, I knew everything had changed.

I felt it immediatelythe shift in energy, the sudden hush, the prickle of awareness as every werewolf in the vicinity caught my scent and turned. Their gazes landed on me with an intensity that was almost physical.

So the news has spread faster than I thought.

I kept my expression neutral, my pace unhurried. Three months ago, this kind of attention would have made my heart race with anxiety. Now, I

felt oddly calm.

Good morning,I nodded at the receptionist who practically jumped to attention.

Good morning, Miss Stone! Orshould I saywould you prefer Miss Lowell now?

I paused. Stone is fine,I said quietly and continued toward the elevator

Inside the design department, the atmosphere was thick with curiosity and awkward energy. Barbara and Taylor, two designers who had previously joined in Megan’s subtle mockery of my work, suddenly couldn meet my eyes. They busied themselves with their screens, posture stiff with discomfort.
