Chapter 21
I strode through the design department corridor with Daniel Parker following a step behind. My mind was cycling though the sprota printe her our opening testing with product development. Crescent Design’s rent performance had been satisfactory, best I wanted to park for bigger breakthroughs, especially in merging wolf traditions will modem Besthetics.
Awe passed the design department leak rooms, laughter and conversation drifted through the half open door was about to confine walking when three words stopped me cold: iris Stone.”
Sam, I heard your team got that collaboration project with Polaris Studio Pretty impressive! a woman’s voice said, laced with gossipy
excitement.
“Yeah, Polaris rarely works with other design houses,” a male voice–Sam’s replied smugly. “Apparently Marcus Foster personally requested to
work with our team.”
‘Speaking of Marcus Foster, the woman’s voice–I now recognized Lisa, one of our senior designers–dropped to what she probably thought was a whisper, “didn’t he just add that new intern Iris Stone to your important project team?”
“Yeah,” Sam’s voice carried clear notes of resentment. “She’s been here what, a few days? Already on a core project without proving herself
“I wonder if there’s something… special between them, you know what I mean,” Lisa suggested with a knowing tone that made my jaw clench. “A big–name designer showing that much interest in an intern just feels off.”
A surge of irritation shot through me, my fingers tightening involuntarily. These employees had the audacity to spread unfounded rumors about a Grey family member right in my own company?
But what bothered me more was the question itself. Why was Marcus showing Iris special treatment? I recalled how he’d practically begged me to stay at the gala, all to keep Iris there. I hadn’t given it much thought then, but now…
I caught Daniel’s eye and gave him a meaningful look. He nodded immediately, understanding my silent command. I positioned myself in the shadows of the corridor, watching as Daniel stepped into the break room.
“Good afternoon, Lisa, Sam,” Daniel’s voice turned cold and formal, cutting through their conversation. “I’d like to remind you both that Grey family matters are not appropriate topics for casual speculation. Furthermore, spreading unsubstantiated rumors about colleagues violates company conduct policies.”
The break room fell suddenly silent.
“We were just chatting,” Lisa attempted to explain, her voice now nervous. Nothing malicious.”
“Mr. Grey values professionalism in the workplace,” Daniel continued. “I suggest you focus your energy on your projects rather than gossip.”
I watched with satisfaction as the two scurried out of the break room, looking properly chastised.
“Keep an eye on the break areas in the future,” I told Daniel. ‘I don’t want to overhear conversations like this again, especially about pack
members.”
“Understood, sir. Daniel’s response was appropriately respectful.

Chapter 21
Back in my office, I found myself unable to concentrate on work. That conversation kept replaying in my mind. iris and Marcus Fosters Row was that possible?
When had she become so… confident? I remembered how she’d confronted me at the gala. The old Iris would never have dared speak to me that way, much less challenge an Alpha. From the day we married, she’d been quiet, compliant, almost like a shadow,
But now, she seemed like a completely different person.
I stood and walked to the floor–to–ceiling windows, gazing out at Moonshade Bay’s skyline. In the distance, the forest boundary appeared as a dark green line under the sunlight. As an Alpha heir, my territorial instinct told me nothing in my domain should be out of my control.
Thinking about Marcus, my brow furrowed involuntarily. His special attention to Iris, that interest that went beyond a normal mentor’s concern… these two really did seem unusually close.
I felt an inexplicable irritation, like something was blocking my chest. I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself.
This was only because I cared about the Grey family reputation, I told myself. I couldn’t let her run around recklessly, affecting our standing is the wolf community. After all, until the cooling period ended, she was still legally my mate.
Almost without thinking, I grabbed my phone and dialed Iris’s number. The phone rang for a long time with no answer. Frowning, I hung up and immediately redialed.
Still no answer. My patience evaporated.
Since you won’t answer my calls, don’t blame me for what comes next. I dialed the design department directly, my voice icy: “Have Iris Stone come to my office immediately.”
After hanging up, I returned to the window, my gaze sweeping across the city skyline as my thoughts tangled. I didn’t understand why simple gossip would irritate me this much. Logically, if Iris was involved with Marcus, wouldn’t that be better for me? She’d be distracted, our divorce would proceed more smoothly.
But for some reason, that thought made me even angrier.
Minutes later, I heard a soft knock at the door.
“Enter,” I commanded tersely.
-that faint floral fragrance mixed with her wolf’s natural smell. That scent used to feel
I heard the door open, and Iris’s scent filled the room–1 familiar and comfortable; now it just agitated me.
I didn’t rush to turn around, wanting to maintain the upper hand. “Iris Stone, I believe I’ve already told you that until the cooling period is complete, you need to behave yourself.”
I turned slowly, fixing her with a sharp gaze. “Don’t go around flirting and causing trouble. The Grey family’s reputation in the wolf community isn’t something you can afford to tarnish.”
I expected to see her usual nervous or guilty expression, like a young wolf being reprimanded by the pack Alpha. Instead, the Iris standing before me had remarkably calm eyes, even carrying a hint of coldness.
That look triggered an inexplicable agitation in me. I didn’t like this feeling–like I was losing control of the situation.
