Jealousy Alpha's Regret novel Chapter 279

Chapter 279

Sebastien’s POV

I stood at the floor-to-ceiling window in my office, staring blankly at the cityscape below. Five days. Five fucking days of her

pushing me away. Every time I get close, she builds the walls higher.

“What do you want, Iris?” I muttered, pulling my phone from my pocket to check for notifications. Nothing. Not a single response t my messages. Not a word of thanks for the meals I’d sent every day. Complete silence.

My jaw tightened. Everything I’d tried had failed. The flowers, the messages, even that forced business collaboration attempt-al useless. My mind kept circling back to that night, to the flash of pink as she threw the ring at me before walking away. That ring the one thing that truly represented what I felt for her.

I’d convinced myself it was lost forever in the darkness that night. Too small to find, probably trampled into the mud or carried away by some animal. But now, with every other approach failing, my thoughts fixated on it with growing desperation. What if it was still there? What if I could find it?

A knock at the door pulled me from my spiraling thoughts.

“Mr. Grey?” Daniel Parker’s voice was hesitant as he entered, clutching a folder to his chest. “The contracts for Thornton are ready. Mr. Thornton is waiting in the conference room.”

I barely glanced at him, my mind suddenly made up. “I need to go to the Lowell estate.”

Daniel’s expression shifted from professional to concerned. “Mr. Grey, Thornton has been waiting for almost an hour. If we don’t sign today, there’s a possibility they’ll-”

I turned to face him fully, and whatever he saw in my eyes made him stop mid-sentence. Good. I wasn’t in the mood for lectures about business priorities.

“We need to reschedule,” I said, already reaching for my jacket.

Daniel looked like he might protest, but thought better of it. Smart man. I pulled out my phone and dialed Thornton’s number

myself.

“James? Sebastien Grey here. I apologize, but I need to postpone our meeting today.” I paused, listening to his disappointed response. “Yes, I understand the urgency. We can reschedule for tomorrow morning. I appreciate your understanding.”

I hung up and nodded to Daniel. “Let’s go.”

“Park farther back,” I instructed as we approached the Lowell property. “I don’t want to be noticed.”

Chapter 279

Daniel pulled over, his confusion evident but unvoiced. I got out and started walking toward the estate’s rear perimeter, my mind flashing back to that night with Iris-her angry tears, the flash of pink as she threw the ring at me, the hollow feeling in my chest as she walked away.

“Mr. Grey?” Daniel hurried to catch up. “I thought we were here to see Jack Lowell?”

“We’re not,” I replied curtly, stopping at the edge of the property where tall hedges marked the boundary. I crouched down, my

expensive suit completely inappropriate for what I was about to do.

“What are we looking for?” Daniel asked, still standing.

“A pink diamond ring,” I explained, already scanning the ground. “I think I lost it here that night.”

Daniel’s eyes widened slightly before he joined me, kneeling in the damp grass. “Is it… important?”

Important? It was fucking everything. The ring I’d had custom made for her by one of the most reclusive werewolf craftsmen in Europe. The ring that was supposed to replace the cold, emotionless one from our arranged marriage. The ring I never got to give

her properly.

“Just help me look,” I muttered instead.

We searched methodically, combing through the grass and bushes. I felt ridiculous-an Alpha heir on his hands and knees in the dirt -but I didn’t care. I needed that ring back.

As I searched, I felt eyes on me. Looking up at the house, I caught a glimpse of movement at one of the windows-Dina, Jack’s security detail assigned to protect Iris. Shit. I quickly looked away, hoping she wouldn’t alert Iris to my presence. The last thing I needed was Iris seeing me like this, scrambling around in the dirt for a ring she’d thrown away.

Was she even still staying here? Or had she moved back to her place in Blue Harbor? Was she eating properly? Taking care of herself
