Chapter 69
Iris’s POV
I stared at Sebastien standing in the shadows near my door, the
orange glow from his cigarette highlighting the sharp angles of his face. My heart was still racing from the misunderstanding with Ethan, and now this. Great. Just what I needed to cap off an already
complicated evening.
Sebastien pinched out his cigarette, his eyes narrowing as they traveled from my face down to the gift bag in my hand. The judgment
in his gaze was unmistakable.
“Since you’re already back, let’s not drag this out any longer,” I said, my voice surprisingly steady despite the storm brewing inside me. “This week we’ll go to the werewolf council and complete the final procedures of our separation, now that the cooling period is over.”
I couldn’t help but remember all those times Sebastien had humiliated me–especially that day when I overheard him telling William how he didn’t like me. The memory still stung, even now. I was done deluding myself that there had ever been anything real
between us.
Sebastien’s face darkened, his jaw tightening. “What’s the rush? You

haven’t even attended the dinner event you promised me. After that,
we’ll be even.”
A cold laugh escaped me. “Please don’t play games anymore, Alpha
Grey. You were the one who was so eager to divorce, yet now you’re
the one stalling the process.”
My mind raced, trying to make sense of his behavior. Why was he
dragging this out? Wasn’t Megan waiting to become his mate? The
thought made something twist painfully inside me, though I refused
to acknowledge it.
“I really don’t understand you,” I continued, meeting his gaze directly.
“Is this your wolf instinct acting up, or do you actually not want this
divorce?”
Sebastien’s nostrils flared slightly, and I knew he was catching my
scent, analyzing it. His face remained impassive, those blue eyes cold
as ice. “You certainly have an active imagination.”
“Well, that’s good to hear,” I replied flatly, taking a few steps forward.
I deliberately used the gift box as a barrier between us, keeping my
distance. “I think we’ve said all there is to say. You can leave now,
Alpha Grey, I look forward to completing our final procedures.”
Without waiting for his response, I moved past him and unlocked my

door. I stepped inside and closed it immediately, leaning back against
the solid wood.
Through the door, I heard Sebastien remain motionless for several
long moments. Finally, footsteps echoed down the hallway, growing
fainter until they disappeared entirely.
I released a breath I hadn’t realized I was holding, sliding down until
I was sitting on the floor. My hand instinctively moved to my still–flat
stomach.
“Just a little longer,” I whispered to myself. “Just a little longer and
we’ll be free.”
The next morning, I woke up to the sound of my phone alarm. I’d
already messaged Marcus Foster the night before to request the day
off. As I stared at the appointment notification on my screen, my
stomach tightened.
“Today’s the check–up,” I murmured, pulling myself out of bed.
At the Moonshade Bay Central Hospital’s Werewolf Wing, I moved
from one department to another, completing various tests. Blood
work, ultrasound, hormone levels–the whole prenatal package. The

doctors and nurses were professional and discreet, which I
appreciated more than they could know.
When all the tests were complete, I sat in a comfortable chair in the
doctor’s office, waiting for my results. The werewolf doctor, a middle-
aged woman with kind eyes, smiled as she entered with my file.
“Everything looks perfect, Ms. Stone,” she said warmly. “Your little
cubs are developing beautifully.”
She handed me the ultrasound image, and I stared at the tiny blob
that represented my babies. It was so small, barely recognizable as a
life form, yet it was already causing massive upheaval in mine.
“Thank you,” I managed, my finger tracing the outline of the image.
“The morning sickness should start to subside in a few weeks,” the
doctor continued. “Make sure you’re getting enough rest and taking
your prenatal vitamins. And try to avoid stressful situations–not
good for you or the cubs.”
As I walked through the hospital corridor, staring at the ultrasound
and test results in my hands, I was so distracted I almost walked right
into someone. Looking up, I froze.
Megan Claire stood directly in front of me, her eyes wide with shock

as they fixed on the papers in my hand. The hospital logo and
“Prenatal Care” header were clearly visible. Her expression shifted
from surprise to calculation in an instant.
“Well, well,” she said, her voice dripping with false sweetness.
“Coming for a prenatal check–up? I had no idea you were expecting,
Iris.” Her eyes narrowed. “Whose little cubs are you carrying? That
Noah Phillips perhaps? Or…”
Her voice trailed off suggestively, but the implication was clear. I
looked at her face, noting how it twisted with anger and jealousy,
making her look almost ugly despite her perfect makeup.
I didn’t respond, just stared at her coldly before stepping around her
and continuing on my way. My heart was pounding, but I refused to
