Chapter 87
I stood frozen, key card in hand, as humiliation washed over me. From
across the room, I saw Iris cover her nose and mouth, backing away
slightly. Even from this distance, her werewolf senses could probably
pick up the client’s rancid breath. The look in her eyes wasn’t just
disgust at the smell–it was mockery of my situation.
“This was supposed to be her,” I thought bitterly, clutching the key
card so hard my nails dug into my palm. “She should be the one being
handed hotel keys, not me.”
The ride back to the office was torture. I sat rigidly in the back of the
car, not speaking a word, while Iris sat calmly looking out the
window. Every fiber of my being wanted to lash out, to scream at her
for making a fool of me. But I wouldn’t give her the satisfaction–not
yet. I’d wait until we were back at the office, where I had home–field
advantage.
My nails dug deeper into my palms, almost drawing blood. I
rehearsed what I would say to her, how I would tear her down in front
of everyone. She’d made me look like a fool today, but I was still
Megan Claire, Sebastien’s first love, his true mate. I still had power.
When the elevator doors opened at our floor, I marched out first, my
heels clicking aggressively against the tile.

Chapter 87
“Come to my office,” I commanded without looking back, my voice
sharp enough to draw curious glances from nearby colleagues.
I noticed how some of them glanced between us, whispering behind
their hands. Did they sense the tension? Could they smell the fury
rolling off me in waves?
I didn’t close my office door. I wanted everyone to hear what I had to
say to Iris Stone.
As she followed me in, looking infuriatingly composed, I grabbed a
stack of files from my desk and hurled them at her. She dodged them
easily, which only fueled my rage.
“Iris Stone, I’ve had it with you!” I shouted, not caring who heard.
“Giving clients attitude, making the company look bad. Who do you
think you are? Some precious princess? This isn’t your daddy’s
company!”
I hoped my words would cut deep, that everyone outside would hear and believe my version of events. I wanted to destroy her reputation
in one fell swoop.
“The clients were very disappointed with your behavior,” I continued, raising my voice further. “Is that how you represent Crescent Design? By acting too good to interact with potential partners?”

Chapter 87
I paced back and forth, my fury building with each step. Iris stood
there watching me, her calm only making me angrier.
“Do you think because you’re married to Sebastien, you’re above the
rest of us? That you don’t have to follow the same rules?” My voice
was getting shriller, but I couldn’t control it. “You’re nothing special,
Iris. Nothing!”
I was so caught up in my tirade that I almost missed her response.
When it came, her voice was measured and clear, loud enough for
everyone outside to hear.
“So Claire, you’re saying that when a business client puts his hands
on you inappropriately, the professional response is to stand there
and let him? Is that the Crescent Design policy I should be
following?”
