Chapter 90
Iris’s POV
I watched Sebastien’s broad back as he strode away from me without
hesitation, his steps purposeful and quick. The sound of his shoes
against the polished floor of the werewolf council office echoed in my
ears as my mind struggled to process what had just happened.
“What the actual fuck?” I thought, blinking in disbelief. “First he
wants a divorce, then he doesn’t, then he arranges this meeting, and
now he just… walks away?”
I remained seated, frozen in place as the door closed behind him with
a soft click. Through the window, I heard the distant roar of his car
engine starting up, then fading as he drove away. The absurdity of the
situation hit me like a slap to the face.
I noticed the receptionist and her colleague exchanging
uncomfortable glances. Their expressions were a mixture of curiosity
and awkwardness – probably wondering what kind of dysfunctional
werewolf couple we were.
“I’m sorry about that,” I said, summoning a polite smile that felt like
plastic on my face. “Seems we won’t be needing your services today
after all.”

The moment I stepped outside, my fake smile vanished. A wave of
helplessness washed over me, making my shoulders slump. I stood on
the steps of the council building, taking deep breaths of the cool
afternoon air, trying to calm the storm of emotions inside me.
“The most frustrating part,” I muttered to myself, “is that he was the
one who couldn’t wait to end things in the first place.”
I walked down the steps slowly, replaying the events of the past few
weeks in my mind. From that forceful kiss at the moon gathering to
today’s bizarre behavior – Sebastien had become increasingly
unpredictable.
“Ever since that night at the Lowell estate, he’s been impossible to
read,” I thought, rubbing my temples. “First he agrees to divorce, then
backs out. Sets up this meeting today, then just walks off… What
game is he playing?”
A troubling thought crossed my mind as I reached the sidewalk. “Is it
because of that accidental photo I sent? Or…” My hand instinctively
moved to my stomach. “Has he somehow sensed the babies?”
My phone rang, interrupting my thoughts. I pulled it out, grimacing
when I saw Catherine’s name on the screen. My first instinct was to
reject the call. After our last encounter, I had nothing left to say to
her.

But the phone kept ringing, persistently demanding my attention. It
was as if she knew I was looking at her name and was determined to
make me answer.
“Fine,” I sighed, hitting the answer button. “What part of ‘we have
nothing more to discuss‘ wasn’t clear last time?” My voice was ice
cold.
“Iris,” Catherine’s voice sounded strained, almost desperate. “Is it
true? Are you and Sebastien really ending your mating bond?”
I walked toward a nearby park, wanting privacy for this conversation.
“Why do you care? It’s none of your business anymore.”
“How can you say that?” Her voice rose slightly. “Iris, you can’t
possibly understand what this means for the Stone family. Without
the Grey family’s protection-”
I cut her off with a harsh laugh. “That’s what this is about? Not
concern for me, but what happens to your precious status in the
werewolf community?”
