Chapter 99
The room quieted slightly. Everyone was interested in the answer to
that question.
Sebastien took another sip before answering. “Obviously it’s done.
Didn’t you see the news?”
My heart practically sang. Confirmation from his own lips! And he
didn’t even sound upset about it–there was even a hint of a smile
playing at the corner of his mouth.
“It’s really over,” I thought, feeling a rush of triumph so strong I had
to bite my lip to keep from grinning. “He doesn’t even care about her.
That Stone bitch’s fancy marriage is finished, and Sebastien is free.”
I remembered how Iris had looked at me that day at New Moon
Design–so smug in her position as Sebastien’s mate, even though
everyone knew it was just a political arrangement. Well, where was
her smugness now?
Blake clapped Sebastien on the shoulder and returned to his other
guests. I waited, watching as Sebastien continued drinking for
another twenty minutes. I was trying to time my approach perfectly
when suddenly he stood up.

divorce proceedings were just one small part of my larger plan.
I pulled out my phone and dialed Daniel’s number. He answered on
the first ring, as always.
“Continue monitoring Iris Stone,” I said without preamble. “I want to
know every move she makes.”
“Yes, sir,” Daniel replied efficiently.
The accidental sexy photo Iris had sent me, the way her scent had
changed subtly over the past few weeks, her sudden eagerness to
finalize our divorce – it all pointed to something she was hiding.
Something important.
And I intended to find out exactly what it was.
I walked to my car, feeling the night air cool against my face. Soon,
very soon, all the pieces would fall into place. And Iris would discover
that walking away from me wouldn’t be nearly as simple as she
thought.

Perfect.
I caught sight of him near the front entrance, his hand running
through his hair in that way he did when he was tired. This was my
moment. I took a deep breath, adjusted my dress one last time, and
put on my most concerned expression.
“Sebastien!” I called out, hurrying toward him. “You’ve had quite a lot
to drink. Let me take you home!”
I reached for his arm, ready to steady him, to be his support when he
needed it most.
But Sebastien stepped smoothly to the side, avoiding my touch
completely. His eyes–those piercing gray eyes–were clear and
focused. There wasn’t even a hint of intoxication in them.
“What the hell? I thought he was drunk. He had at least eight drinks.”
“You want to take me home?” he asked, his voice low and amused.
My face heated instantly. The way he said it–with that hint of
suggestion–made my pulse quicken. “I… I just meant you shouldn’t
drive,” I stammered, suddenly feeling like I was the one who’d had too
many drinks.
