The cool mountain air tasted like pine and fresh rain. I stood on the wide wooden deck of the private mountain lodge, leaning my arms against the carved railing and taking a long, deep breath.
Brandon had proposed the trip to clear our head off things for a while and I had accepted. Plus, it was my little angel’s birthday in a bit. And holidays were rolling up.
Far below us, the valley stretched out like a giant green blanket, quiet and completely still. There were no city sounds here. No roaring hockey arenas, no flashing news cameras, and no shadow of Julian trying to force his way back into our lives.
The sliding glass door behind me opened with a soft sound, and Brandon stepped out onto the deck.
He was wearing a dark wool sweater and soft pants, looking relaxed in a way I rarely saw back in the city. He carried two steaming mugs of hot coffee, the rich smell drifting through the crisp morning air.
He walked over, handing me one mug before sliding his free arm around my waist, pulling me close to his warm side. “How did you sleep?” he asked softly, resting his chin on top of my head.
“Like I haven’t slept in months,” I said, leaning my weight against his side and taking a slow sip of the hot coffee. “It’s so quiet here, Brandon. It feels like we’re the only people in the world.”
“That was the plan,” he whispered, his arm tightening gently around me. Down in the green yard in front of the lodge, I could see Amelia playing.
She was bundled up in a bright pink coat and little brown boots, happily chasing a small, friendly golden retriever that belonged to the lodge keeper.
Her clear, loud laughter echoed off the trees, bright and full of pure joy.
I watched her for a long moment, feeling a deep, quiet sense of relief fill my chest. Just a few weeks ago, I was terrified that the court battle would leave permanent scars on her tiny heart.
I had spent so many sleepless nights worrying that the constant tension would ruin her childhood. But looking at her now, laughing, playing, completely unbothered by the world, I knew she was whole.
She felt safe because Brandon had built a fortress around us, not just with guards and money, but with genuine love and steady presence.
“Look at her,” I murmured softly, resting my hand over Brandon’s on my waist. “She’s so happy.”
“She deserves to be,” Brandon said, his voice dropping into a low, serious tone. He turned his head, looking down into my eyes with an intensity that made my heart skip a beat. “And so do you, Aria.”
I set my coffee mug down on the wooden railing and turned around in his arms to face him. “I am happy. Brandon. More than I’ve ever been.”
Brandon didn’t answer right away. He reached into the pocket of his dark sweater, pulling out a smooth,

beavy set of brass keys attached to a sleek leather ring. He held them out in the palm of his hand between us.
1 looked down at the keys, then back up at his face, my brow furrowing in confusion. “What are these?”
“These are the keys to a new property down in the valley,” Brandon said softly, his dark eyes searching my face with total vulnerability. “I didn’t buy it just for a weekend getaway, Aria. I bought it as the land for our future.”
My breath hitched in my throat. “Our future?”
“I’m building my new corporate headquarters right in your city,” Brandon revealed, a small, genuine smile touching his lips as he watched my eyes widen in shock.
“It’s already under construction. I didn’t want to tell you until everything was set in stone because I didn’t want to rush you. But I am not going back to my old city to live, Aria. My business, my life, and my home are wherever you and Amelia are.”
Tears pricked at the corners of my eyes, warm and sudden. I stared at him, completely speechless.
“I don’t want us living in separate spaces or worrying about long drives anymore,” Brandon continued, his hand coming up to gently cup my jaw, his thumb brushing away a stray tear that slipped down my cheek.
“I want to wake up next to you every single morning. I want to build a real, permanent home with you. A place where Amelia can grow up without ever feeling like her world is unstable.”
“Brandon…” I breathed out, my voice trembling with emotion.
“Move in with me fully, Aria,” he asked, his voice filled with a raw, honest hope that completely stripped away the powerful billionaire facade. “Let’s make this official. Let me be the partner you lean on for the rest of your life.”
I didn’t need a single second to think. The quiet doubts that had haunted me for years the fear of trust, the lingering pain from my past with Julian vanished into thin air, replaced by absolute certainty.
“Yes,” I said, throwing my arms tightly around his neck and pulling him close. “Yes, Brandon. Absolutely yes.
Brandon let out a deep, chest-rattling breath of pure relief. He wrapped his arms around my waist, lifting me off my feet slightly as he captured my lips in a deep, passionate kiss.
It wasn’t rushed or frantic; it was filled with deep promise, stability, and a quiet strength that anchored my whole world.
When he finally set me down, his hands stayed resting on my hips, his dark eyes glowing with a quiet, fierce happiness.
Down in the yard, Amelia’s little voice called out to us. “Daddy. Mommy. Look at the big leaf I found.”
