Juniper grumbled as Phineas traced patterns in her shoulder softly encouraging her to wake up.

“Come on now, it’s time to get up. Mama Maeve should be here soon.”

She pouted, “I’m sleepy.”

“You are. I’m sure your mama is going to be even more exhausted considering she flew the red eye.”

“No, she didn’t. It was the middle of the night when she called me.

Phineas chuckled, “Juniper, you were so discombobulated last night with Fermín’s introduction that none of us corrected you, but you were changing time backwards.”

“What?

“You were messaging your mother in the dead of the afternoon back home. They’re behind us in time, not ahead.”

“But she took so long to answer and I presumed she was sleeping.

“We went with it because it was kind of cute to see how confused you were getting over everything with the notion your father was

the neighbor of Beni’s grandparents.”

“But Mama didn’t correct me either.

“I don’t think she realized what you were saying. Why do you think Fermín was going to be able to get her a passport within the hour? It was the middle of the day back home.”

“Ugh,” she groaned and smacked her head off his chest relishing the grunt he made as if it hurt. “Now I feel like a stupid airhead.”

Why?

“I kept talking about it over and over. It’s one a.m. It’s two a.m.. You all knew and now I feel like an idiot.”

“You were a woman who was trying to play it cool because you were excited and it was cute.”

She pouted as she looked around the bed, “where’s Beni and Adil?

“They both went downstairs already. Beni is getting coffee on, and Adil is making sure the guest room on the main floor is ready for your mom when she gets here.

“She’s staying with us?” she blinked in confusion.

Do you want her in a hotel? Mama Maeve doesn’t strike me as

“But he doesn’t live there,” she frowned at Phineas. “Didn’t Abuela say he comes to visit and take care of his father to give his mother a break? I presumed, based on the way Fermín was behaving my mama was going to be put up in whatever house he lives in.”

Now it was Phineas‘ turn to frown, “really? I didn’t think you’d want her too far away from you.

“Phineas, I’m on vacation to practice making babies.” She snorted at him. “The last thing I want is to have my mother walking in on me getting railed by three men on patio.

“I thought you’d be excited about her coming to Spain.

“You just met your father last night.

“Yeah. He’s great. Already love him to bits. But they were already talking about going sailing and taking the yacht out and

spending a day exploring the sights and that’s wonderful. I can do all those things but when it comes time to come back at the end of the day, I don’t want my mother underfoot too. I’m happy to spend time with them and get to know them and watch my mother and father rekindle whatever is going on but I don’t want to miss out on us. Despite how stupid I was last night with time zones; I’m typically a very smart woman. I know when we get back, things aren’t going to be as wild as they were. It’s going to all be settled and you and Adil and Beni will all be back to work and I’ll be sorting out next steps in what I want to do. You’ll all be working fifteen–hour days, and I’ll be lonely,” she let her voice trail away.

“Hey,” he rolled over her, pressing her into the mattress with his weight. “Sweetheart, you are never going to be lonely. Not ever. We love you very much for that. We’ve all, the three of us, have talked extensively about making sure you are loved and secure but also that we are loved and secure. We want dinner together every evening if possible. We want to sleep in the same bed at a reasonable hour every night so we can actually get sleep because it takes us hours to be done with you. We want lazy Sunday mornings and date nights on Friday night. Adil made a very good point the other day.”

“Which point?

“The one where he said he’s already got more money than he’ll ever need so all he wants to do now are the things which makes him happy. We’re the same. We don’t need to work sixteen–hour days every day, sweetheart. We will work as needed and there

will be projects, cases, or files we need to work on which will require us to be burning the candles at both ends but those won’t be the norm. We’re also going to take trips like this,” he stroked the back of his knuckles up her cheek, “for us to reconnect when things do get busy. We don’t want you thinking time with us is a luxury or a treat. It’s going to be the norm.”

“Really?”

“Always, and forever, Juniper. We love you. We love you so much and there is far more possibility of you screaming at us to give you space than us leaving you alone for too long.

“Do you promise?”

“I absolutely promise.”

“I still don’t want my mother in our love nest.

“Juniper.” He laughed. “Do you want me to find her a hotel room?

“No.” she pursed her lips with annoyance. “We’ll just have to be quiet when we have sex and only in the bedroom.
