“What is going on over here?” Suki asked as she approached the women nervously.

“We’re discussing how it is not any business of any in–law what the fuck a woman does with her womb.” Heloise looked at Suki, “I will give you a piece of advice though. My cousin married a man built like yours Suki. His big babies caused her to need vaginal reconstruction. If you decide to give birth, book a c–section in advance and when you’re done having babies, get a good plastic surgeon. Just because kids ruin our bodies, doesn’t mean it has to stay that way. He’s a big guy. Your babies are going to be nine pounds or higher.”

“Jesus Christ, Mother, how much have you had to drink?”

“Enough she told us that she ravaged your father in a coat closet,” Juniper giggled.

“Nasty,” he reached to take the wine from her, and she clutched it to his chest.

“I was just telling Juniper how proud I am of you. You were in your element here, getting all the ducks in a row. Very professional, Adil.”

“Yeah, you are drunk.” He spoke slowly and looked around, “where’s Dad?”

“He’s with Phin and Gonzalo with Fermín. They were talking about golfing but I’m pretty sure it was code for ways to kill Carl Kennedy and get away with. Fermín was saying they own a ship which has a golf course on it and then said he’d like to use a golf club to knock a someone right into the sea. I’m really confident it was all code for how to kill the fucker.” She looked back at Juniper, “I will forever take solace in the fact while I won’t be your favorite in–law at least I’m not Carl Kennedy bad.”

Adil laughed and kissed his mother’s cheek. “You are very drunk.”

“I am very happy.” She corrected.

Ximena waved at Maeve, “Maeve come join us. We haven’t had a chance to talk to you about Fermín yet.”

Maeve hopped up onto a stool Adil pulled out and grinned, “what do you want to know?”

“Did you reconnect the same way you did the night Juni was conceived?” Sandra boldly asked. “Was it hot and sexy?”

“My daughter is right there,” Maeve pointed at Juniper.

“I was doing shots of vodka with Granddad. I’m good.”

“You asked for it.” Maeve grinned wickedly. “If for nothing other than to provide distraction,” she nudged Suki, “you young girls need to take notes. Sex is great in your twenties, if your partner is older because guys your own age are usually thinking they’re doing a great job but they’re fumbling around thinking your labia is a clit. I was lucky with Fermín back then. He knew what he was doing.”

Suki snorted, holding her ribs as she laughed, “oh my god Mama Maeve!”

“The guys were asking me if you were young enough to give me a sibling.”

Maeve’s eyes swung at Adil, “you can all piss off with that thought.”

“Since when?” Adil lifted an eyebrow in the air.

“Since today!” she slapped her hand on her lap. “Since my mother–in–law reminded me of how horrible she’s been my whole life despite the fact it was not my fault I couldn’t give you siblings. Since I saw Lois coming in here tonight supporting her son and husband and thinking of hér pressure on Juniper. Since I saw my son being a goout

loving partner and defending his woman. It makes me want to be better. I will be better. I need more wine.” She looked around for a waiter.

“We should do it.” Maeve said leaning forward. “Let’s go to the hospital and rub it in. My daughter is a billionaire heiress. I’d love to shove it in her face how Juniper traded and she’ll get the loving support of all kinds of mamas now.”

“We can’t go anywhere until we give our statements.” Adil argued.

Suki made a face, “aren’t you all stupidly rich? Make the cops go to you. I think one of us could fake an injury to get taken to the same hospital to get near the bitch. Then make the cops come to you.”

“I feel like it’s kicking a woman when she’s down,” Juniper protested. “Her son is likely in surgery. Her husband was cheating on her and she found out.”

“I bet I could convince Frasier to throw his back out. I just need five minutes with him in the coat closet, and we can be on our way to the hospital where Lois is. Nosy bmb sniffer.”

Juniper frowned at Heloise’s terminology and then met Adil’s eyes. “You might want to call in reinforcements. I think these ladies are about to stage a coup, of what I don’t know but I feel it’s going to happen.”
