Delusional Part II

He took her by the hand and walked her back into the meeting room.

“Your hands are always all over her.” Kyst accused them furiously. “Are you sleeping with my wife?”

“I am her friend and her lawyer, and she needs both facets of our relationship right now, Mr. Kennedy.”

“She didn’t even know you until a few weeks ago.”

“And yet, I would call her one of my best friends without reservation after watching how gloriously strong she is. Do you know, Kyst, it was Phineas, Adil and I who collected Juniper from the medical clinic where she was bleeding after the loss of your child? While you were banging my best friend’s wife on her sofa, she was proving how incredibly resilient she is.”

“You said you were with your mother.” Kyst flicked angry eyes at her.

“She was with her mother. The confirmation of your betrayal happened while Juniper was at the workplace. She left work bleeding and was taken to the clinic. Out of an abundance of caution and concern, the three of us went to check on her because we were the ones who confirmed for her how you were in fact cheating. We picked her up. We brought her to a secure place, and we arranged for her mother to be present. Her mother stayed with her, as well as her mother’s employer,

Sandra Perez. Maeve was the one who helped her get cleaned up, fed her, put her to bed, stayed with her in bed and then stayed with her for four more full days. We knew she had nowhere to go given while she was losing her child you were washing your bedding from the filth of your affair, and she didn’t want to sleep there.” Kyst looked away from Beni’s brutal takedown. “Being around someone who was so vulnerable yet demonstrating such tenacity, made me instantly admire and respect Juniper. She is a lesson on how to persevere in the worst of situations. Juniper has made a lifelong friend in me, and I will never, ever, let her down.”

“I –” Kyst started to speak but the mediator cut him off.

“If that was true, Mr. Kennedy,” Beni helped Juniper to her feet, “you wouldn’t have hidden the proceeds of our income from her. You were greedy. You wanted to play the fast talking, smooth and scheming lawyer while also playing the doting husband. Your lies have caught up to you. It’s time to pay up.”

Beni edged Juniper out of the room, blocking her from seeing the man who sobbed pitifully with his head down on the desk.

Juniper stopped at the door and looked at him coldly, “Kyst.” When he looked up she met his eyes, “you need to stop behaving like you’re the one who was wronged. All of this,” she waved around the room, “are the consequences of your actions. Not mine. You need to stop acting like the victim and start realizing I haven’t done a damn thing wrong other than love you, which I admit, right now, feels like the biggest mistake I ever made. You did this. You caused this. Your infidelity and your inability to be faithful is what brought us here. Stop all the tears and the whining. It’s not going to change anything and it’s only serving to make me loathe you more than I already do.”

With that she tucked her hand back in Beni’s and let him lead her away.
