Lady Warrior's Warth on Divorce Day novel Chapter 129

Nicolas felt a sharp pain shoot through his body.

His right hand was still wrapped in bandages, so he had to prop himself up with his left, trying to stand.

But before he could even get up, Wren came right up and slammed his foot into Nicolas’s side.

Nicolas was sent crashing back to the ground.

Wren’s voice was low and lethal. You said you wouldn’t let Zoya off? Fine. Then I’ll start by not letting you off first.

Nicolas felt like he’d been dunked straight into a freezing lake. Cold sweat soaked his skin as terror gripped him.

Wren!Zoya rushed over and quickly grabbed his arm, her tone urgent.

Seriously? You’re still sticking up for this piece of trash?Wren snapped.

I’m not protecting him. I’m protecting you,Zoya said gently. There were too many people watching. If Wren really beat Nicolas here, it would only cause unnecessary trouble.

Wren pressed his lips together, looming over Nicolas as he lay on the ground. If you ever touch Zoya again, I swear I’ll hunt you down until you’re dead.”

That was practically a blood oath, a vicious threat.

The audience couldn’t hear what Wren said, but everyone up on stage heard every word. Everyone just stared, eyes wide and faces stunned.

After all, they had never imagined that the legendary Mr. Richmond would swear a deadly oath like that for a

woman.

That oath made it crystal clear. Zoya was everything to Wren.

Nicolas stared blankly at him. When Wren spoke those words, it felt like countless invisible blades were aimed straight at him. The slightest movement, and he’d be torn to shreds.

Zoya looked at Wren in surprise.

She’d always known he loved her. He was never shy about showing it.

But she’d never imagined his feelings ran deeper than she ever guessed.

18-10

Warmth swelled quietly in her chest. If they hadn’t been surrounded by so many people, she might have kissed him right then.

Nicolas shouted hoarsely, Zoya! You’re just hiding behind Wren! If Jasmine really gets burned and dies, shouldn’t you feel even a little guilty?

Chapter 129

If anyone should feel guilty, it’s you,Zoya shot back coldly. She’s your fiancée. You’re her fiancé. If something happens to her and you don’t feel guilty, why on earth should I?

Nicolas was stunned into silence.

Zoya lifted her gaze toward the massive studio screen. Besides, whether Jasmine is truly innocentthat’s still up for debate.

Nicolas barked, Of course she’s innocent! She’s kind! She risked her life to save people! She’d never just stand by and watch someone die. There must be some explanation!

Oh, really?Zoya shot back, her voice dripping with sarcasm.

She couldn’t forget the flicker of guilt that had flashed across Jasmine’s face when she first heard the recording. That alone said plenty.

That audio the kidnapper played was probably legit. Jasmine had stood by and watched someone die.

But now, with the kidnapper dousing Jasmine in gasoline, was he really about to torch her alive in a fit of revenge, or did he have some other twisted plan in mind?

On the screen, Jasmine’s entire body trembled violently. She twisted and thrashed against the ropes, crying out desperately, No! Don’t! Who sent you? I can give you money! I’m the Ingram family’s daughter. My fiancé is rich! Do you know Nicolas, the CEO of Mayer Technology? His company is publicly listed! He’ll give you whatever you want, I swear!

Money? The kidnapper let out a twisted chuckle. I don’t want your money. You said your colleague must’ve been hallucinating when he called your name as he burned to death, so I’ll test that theory. Let’s see if you start hallucinating when you’re the one on fire.”

With that, the kidnapper whipped out a lighter. The flame flickered to life.

Jasmine’s body trembled uncontrollably. If even the smallest spark touched that gasoline, the entire room would explode into a raging inferno, and she’d be roasted alive.

Her mind flashed back to that night, when she watched the copilot burn alive right in front of her. His agonized screams and the way the flames devoured him. The memory made her terror spiral out of control.

What’s the matter? Looks like even a killer gets scared when it’s their turn, the kidnapper mocked, the lighter inching ever closer to Jasmine’s face.

Jasmine’s complexion turned ashen. As the tiny flame danced inches from her eyes, she closed her eyes and said, II’m not a killer! It’s not my fault…”

Not your fault? The man’s tone darkened. Are you saying you weren’t there when it happened? He was your mentor, the man who looked after you, who treated you like family. He was on fire and begging for your help, and you just stood there? Why didn’t you save him? There was a fire extinguisher right there!

No! That’s not true! The fire was just too much. Even if I’d grabbed the extinguisher, it wouldn’t have made any difference!Jasmine cried out.

Out of nowhere, the whole place froze. The kidnapper went silent.

Jasmine’s heart plummeted. The instant those words came out, she knew she’d messed up.

The kidnapper’s chilling laughter suddenly rang out beside her car. So you really were right there. Why didn’t you grab the fire extinguisher? Why did you just stand there and watch him get burned alive? Tell me! Why? Why!

The kidnapper’s furious shouts sent Jasmine into a total meltdown.

She stammered, Becausebecause the fire was tootoo big… II was scared! I was too scared to go near him!

I didn’t mean to leave him! I justI just panickedPlease, I’m begging you, don’t hurt me

And the moment Jasmine blurted that out, everyone in the live stream went nuts.

[Wait, for real? She didn’t do anything just because she was scared? She literally could’ve grabbed the extinguisher, and she still didn’t even try to help?]

[Oh my god, she just stood there while her coworker burned alive? Like, was that her sworn enemy or something?]

[So she’s been keeping this secret all this time? And she actually had the guts to play the hero and soak up all that praise? Unbelievable.]

Jasmine had no idea her every word was being broadcast live to

Sousands, including Nicolas himself.

Nicolas, who’d been so sure that Jasmine could never just stand by and watch someone die, could only stare at the screen in total disbelief, feeling like his whole world just collapsed.

The woman he’d worshiped as a hero, the fearless pilot who soared to the sky, the one who had once pulled him from the river, watched a man being burned alive and had done nothing.

She actually did nothing, just watched her own colleague get burned alive.

No way. This can’t be real,Nicolas thought.

But Jasmine’s begging and her endless excuses about being too scaredjust kept coming through the screen, each word stabbing at him.

In that instant, it felt like everything Nicolas believed in just crumbled to dust.
