Lady Warrior's Warth on Divorce Day novel Chapter 143

Chapter 143

Daphne’s face burned with anger and humiliation in response to Zoya’s cold stare.

Keep telling yourself that,Daphne shot back. But one day, you’ll see. Wren will dump you just like he dumped me!

Before Zoya could get a word out, Wren suddenly cut in. That will never happen, Daphne. If you ever talk like that to Zozo again, I won’t hesitate to make sure you’re finished in Marabotara.

Daphne’s expression changed instantly when she saw Wren suddenly standing in the hallway, Harvey following close behind. A flash of fear flickered in her

However, her fear was quickly replaced by jealousy.

eyes.

Why does Wren always stand up for Zoya?Daphne seethed. She’s never given up anything for him!

Wren Richmond, what’s so special about Zoya? She’s divorced, for crying out loud! What could she ever do for you? Would she give up an eye for you, or sacrifice anything at all? Of course not! She’d never be willing to go that far for you, not like I did!Daphne snapped, stepping right up to Wren.

Wren let out a cold laugh as he said, I don’t need Zozo to prove anything to me. Divorced or not, I’m just glad she left her past behind. Now, I’ve got a real chance with her. As for you…”

Wren paused, contempt flickering in his eyes. Let’s not kid ourselves. Your eye was never sacrificedfor me. You just didn’t have the courage or ability to fight back or run away.

Daphne protested in panic. No. Even if I could’ve escaped, I never would’ve abandoned you

Would you really have stayed?Wren countered. Wasn’t I the one who pleaded with you not to go? And what did you do? You still tried everything to get away, didn’t you?

Daphne was momentarily at a loss for words, pain written all over her face. I was just a kid then. I didn’t understand anything yet. But my feelings for you were always genuine, Wren. I love you!

Right then, Daphne couldn’t care less that Zoya was standing right there. She was desperate to patch things up with Wren.

Love me?Wren scoffed.

Yes! I love you! I’ve loved you since the very first time I ever saw you as a child. Wren, I’ve loved you all these years. There’s no way Zoya could ever come close!Daphne burst out, her voice brimming with hurt and frustration.

Wren shot her a cold look and said, Even if you claim you love me, you always bail when push comes to shove. Zoya isn’t like you. She’d never turn her back on me. You can’t even come close to her.

As he spoke, Wren’s eyes softened as they landed on Zoyaa world away from the icy glare he’d given Daphne just moments before,

Let’s head back to the private room,he said. The food we ordered is probably getting cold.

Zoya glanced at Daphne, whose face had gone pale, gave a quick nod, then looked over at Harvey, slouched against the wall. You coming?

I’ll just hit the restroom. Be there in a minute,Harvey replied, sounding completely laidback.

Zoya nodded and headed to the private room with Wren.

However, Harvey didn’t head for the men’s room. Instead, he walked straight up to Daphne.

WhatWhat do you want?Daphne asked nervously, her voice trembling as Harvey’s intimidating presence made her uneasy. Instinctively, she took two steps back.

Harvey smirked and, out of nowhere, grabbed Daphne by the chin. You were the one who tried to block Zoya at the memorial hall entrance and wouldn’t let her inside, weren’t you? And you gave up an eye for Wren, didn’t you?

Harvey’s grin was unsettling, his voice dripping with menacelike a serpent flicking its tongue, sending chills down Daphne’s spine. His fingers hovered dangerously close to her eye, as if he could gouge it out at any

moment.

You want to risk it?Harvey sneered. Say one more word about Zoya, and I promise you that you won’t have your other eye for long.”

As the words left his mouth, Harvey’s grip tightened, fingertips pressing so close that Daphne could almost feel them threatening to pierce her eye for real.

Panic flooded Daphne’s eyes. She said, You’ll go to jail if you do that!

Harvey sneered, Go on, try me. Let’s see which happens firstme getting locked up, or you losing your other eye.

Daphne’s teeth started to chatter from sheer fear.

The guy’s even crazier than Wren, Daphne thought, her heart hammering in her chest.

PPlease let me goI swear. I won’t say another word about Zoya,Daphne pleaded, voice shaking as she caved. The way Harvey looked at hershe knew he wasn’t making an empty threat. He’d really do it.

Harvey finally let go, acting like she’d contaminated him, and headed to the sink to wash his hands. Hope you remember every word said tonight.

you

Daphne clenched her teeth in humiliation, barely holding back her fury as she stumbled back to the private room where her friends were.

However, her socalled friends didn’t greet her with their usual warmth when she pushed open the door. Instead, they stared at her, eyes full of mockery.

So, Daphne, you’ve lost Wren as your backer, huh?one of them sneered.

I was wondering why you’ve been hanging around us so much lately. Is the Lucero Group that slow? Turns out you’re out of favor now,” another chimed in.

So that’s why you’re so desperate to push this project. Do you want to use us as stepping stones? You know how to play your cards, don’t you?someone else scoffed.

Her socalled friends all started throwing shade, taking turns mocking her.

Then one woman, Elvira Wade, stood up and walked over. Sorry, Daphne. I overheard your little chat with Wren in the hallway by the restroom and couldn’t help spilling the tea when I got back. But honestly, how could you keep something like this from us for so long?

Daphne glanced at Elvira, who used to follow her every word without question, always acting like her loyal sidekick.

Elvira, IDaphne tried to get the words out, but her voice was barely more than a whisper.

However, before she could say anything else, Elvira grabbed a bottle of wine from the table and dumped its contents straight over Daphne’s head, the cold liquid drenching her before everyone.

Daphne went blank for a moment, stunned, as Elvira’s mocking voice rang out, If you’d been honest from the start, we wouldn’t have wasted our time buttering you up!

WhatWhat did you just say?Daphne stammered, staring at Elvira in outright disbelief.

Elvira rolled her eyes and scoffed, Come on, Daphne. Did you think we hung around you because you were something special? You were an illegitimate kid, nothing impressive. You as the queen bee of our clique? Get real. The only reason we showed you respect was because Wren had your back. Now that he’s dumped you, how do you even have the nerve to keep hanging out with us?

The whole group cracked up, laughing openly at her humiliation.

Daphne stood there, soaked in wine and looking utterly pathetic. At that moment, she was no more than a clown in the eyes of all her old friends.

Zoya hovered anxiously over Wren, fussing about the swelling on his cheek and that nasty split on his lip. She even made him open wide so she could check if all his teeth were still there.

Harvey hadn’t exactly held back with that punch.

Zoya huffed, Seriously, next time someone tries to hit you, don’t just stand there and take it, at least duck or something!

Alright,” Wren replied with a smirk. But if it’s you hitting me, I won’t even try to dodge. I’ll let you go at it as much as you want!

Zoya laughed and asked, Why would I ever hit you?

MaybeIf I did something wrong?he answered, a little hesitant.

Zoya raised an eyebrow, saying, Like what?

Wren’s lashes quivered as he wondered how to even say it. How am I supposed to explain this?he thought, feeling flustered.

Zozo!Wren suddenly wrapped his arms around her waist. Since he was sitting and Zoya was standing, his face naturally ended up pressed against her stomach.

If I ever screw up and make you mad, you can hit me, yell at me, do whatever you want. But don’t walk out on me, please, alright?Wren mumbled, clinging tight to Zoya.

His voice came out soft and shaky, every word thick with pleading as he was terrified she’d leave him and disappear forever.
