Lady Warrior's Warth on Divorce Day novel Chapter 146

A flicker of guilt flashed in Daphne’s eyes. II didn’t do anything, Zoya! Don’t accuse me unfairly!

Zoya’s eyes burned with fury. Though Wren’s mind was regaining clarity, his eyes remained tightly shut, his face contorted in agony. Beads of sweat dotted his forehead, and his temples throbbed with visible veins.

They had only been apart for barely an hour, yet he had become like this.

Just as Daphne struggled to stand up from the floor, Zoya raised her foot and stomped down hard on her back, driving her down onto the floor again.

Daphne, I’ll ask you again. What did you do to Wren? And what is that perfume on you?Zoya snapped.

Daphne struggled against it, but with Zoya’s foot pressing down on her back, she felt like it weighed a thousand pounds, and she couldn’t possibly stand up.

Are you all just going to stand there? Get Zoya off me, now!Daphne barked at the servants.

But none of the servants dared move.

After all, everyone knew Daphne was out of the Lucero family’s good graces now, while Zoya was the apple of Waldo’s eye.

Even the story of how the Abbott clan had a legacy of fierce loyalty had spread among the servants, so naturally, they all sided with Zoya.

Seeing that none of the servants dared step up, Daphne’s anger flared. Do you all want to lose your jobs? Zoya, try humiliating me again, and I swear you’ll pay for it!

Daphne!Zoya’s voice turned icy as she glared down at her from above. “If you don’t come clean about what you did, and if anything happens to Wren, I promise you I’ll make sure your life is nothing but hell from now

on!

With her words, Zoya’s foot pressed down even harder.

Daphne thought her spine might snap in two, and all she saw on Zoya’s face was a deadly chill and utter contempt.

It was as if Zoya really would crush her back to pieces right then and there if she didn’t confess.

II just sprayed perfume on myselfII didn’t do anything else!Daphne cried out in pain.

If it’s just perfume, then why is Wren suffering like this?Zoya shot back.

Daphne’s face alternated between red and pale, and at this moment, Zoya made her recall the same sense of fear she had felt when Wren had choked her earlier.

It’s justIt’s the same perfume that Wren’s mother wore when she died. And I have no clue why he’s freaking out like this!Daphne stammered.

Zoya’s heart skipped a beat. The perfume Wren’s mother wore when she passed away?

She knew better than anyone how much Wren’s mother’s death haunted him.

And now, Daphne had deliberately sprayed herself with the very perfume Wren’s mother had been wearing when she died. What was she trying to do?Zoya wondered.

But for now, Zoya couldn’t afford to dwell on these matters either. She hurriedly left the Lucero family with

Wren.

The parlor was left in utter chaos.

Daphne staggered to her feet and glared fiercely at the surrounding servants.

Years ago, she and Wren witnessed his mother’s suicide together. The perfume bottle his mother always used lay shattered on the ground, its contents spilling out and filling the air with a scent so strong it made it hard to breathe.

Daphne knew that the fragrance had haunted Wren ever since. He’d even gone so far as to track down the perfume company and personally destroy the formula for that very scent.

She had also accidentally learned that someone had gone to great lengths to find the original perfume formula after its discontinuation, only to recreate a fragrance with the same scent.

It was originally just that person sharing his personal hobby, but Daphne still spent quite a bit of money buying a bottle of perfume from him.

Years ago,

she had witnessed Wren’s breakdown after his mother’s death, how he’d become frantic and disoriented upon smelling the same perfume, desperately clutching at others.

So, after Wren rejected her and she left the parlor, she deliberately doused herself in that perfume, even had a servant waiting at the door. She planned to let Wren become disoriented by the scent and take off their clothes.

Whether it would lead to a real consummation of their relationship or create the illusion of something compromising in front of others, either way, she stood to gain.

What fired her up even more was knowing this would totally blow up whatever was going on between Wren and Zoya.

However, she did not expect that after smelling the perfume, Wren, though indeed disoriented, would react entirely differently from his younger self.

Instead of appearing restless and in need of comfort, he became violently uncontrollable, driven to kill

someone.

Every time Daphne thought about the way his hands had tightened around her throat, she felt a cold shiver running down her spine.

What are you staring at?Daphne snapped, shooting a venomous glare at the servants.

The servants instantly lowered their heads, too scared to speak. One of them nervously picked up a handful of photos that lay scattered across the floor.

Hold on, what’s that?Daphne barked at the servant.

The servant quickly replied, These arethe photos that just fell out of Zoya’s pocket.

Daphne snatched the photos straight out of the servant’s hand. “Zoya actually carries pictures with her? Let’s see whose face she’s carrying around, she thought to herself.

There were just three photos, and all of them were of the same guy.

In two, he was in military uniform, and in the last, he was shirtless, training.

Daphne squinted, zooming in on the gnarly scar across his shoulder.

Wait, that scarWhy does it look so familiar? Where have I seen it before?Daphne wondered.

Zoya drove Wren straight to the hospital.

It wasn’t until the doctor gave him a sedative that he finally started to calm down.

After learning that Wren was in the hospital, Gilbert couldn’t wait despite his own injuries and rushed over.

Gilbert, why are you here?Zoya asked. Gilbert had gotten caught in the crossfire back when that assassin tried to take out Wren, and he’d been laid up recovering ever since.

I’m fine, really. But what happened? Why did Mr. Richmond end up in the hospital all of a sudden?Gilbert asked, worry written all over his face.

He totally lost it because of some perfume. The doctor has given him a sedative, so he should be fine once he wakes up,” Zoya explained.

Perfume?Gilbert’s eyes went wide in shock. Wait, was it that perfume?

You mean the one his mom wore when she passed away?Zoya asked.

Gilbert looked genuinely surprised. You know about that?

Zoya then relayed the information she had extracted from Daphne to Gilbert.

Gilbert’s expression turned grave. I can’t believe Daphne actually tried to plot against Mr. Richmond with something like this. Very few people know this perfume can cause him to lose control.

She must’ve stumbled on the secret by pure luck. And as far as I know, the formula should have been destroyed long ago.”

Then I need you to dig deep and find out exactly how Daphne managed to get that perfume,Zoya said.

Sure,Gilbert replied.

And another thingZoya glanced at Wren lying on the hospital bed. Every time he caught scent of this perfume in the past, he would lose his mind and try to kill someone?

Huh?Gilbert blinked, then said, Of course not. After his mother’s death, Mr. Richmond would lose his mind when he smelled this perfume.

He’d become terrified, grab hold of someoneand sometimes even harm himself. But that was when he was still young.

Zoya frowned, thinking, That’s so different from the way Wren snapped today!’
