Zoya met Wren’s gaze. Their bodies were very close. She could even feel the coolness. emanating from his skin.

“If I ever really wanted a man, it would only be because I loved him deeply. That’s the only reason I would want him,” Zoya said as she withdrew from Wren’s embrace.

Their hands, which had been intertwined on the other side, finally separated.

Wren stared blankly at his empty hands. A sense of loss spread through his chest.

“Let’s leave this room,” Zoya said.

Wren slowly stood up. “How did

you get in here?”

Zoya explained, “I heard you groaning inside. I called you and knocked on the door, but you didn’t respond. I was afraid something had happened to you, so I came in. I apologize for not following your rules.”

Even though it wasn’t intentional, she had ultimately entered this forbidden room.

“Is there nothing else you want to say besides this?” Wren stared at Zoya. The whips covering the wall and the gloomy environment in the room could easily make anyone feel physically uncomfortable.

Zoya said, “It’s all in the past. You’ve grown up, and you shouldn’t let this room trap you.”

Although she didn’t know exactly what had happened to him in that room, she could piece together some of it.

And even just imagining what he must have gone through was enough to fill her with anger.

Wren suddenly widened his eyes, looking at Zoya in surprise.

“And one more thing…” Zoya hesitated for a moment. “If I see your father next time, I want to punch him. Do you think your team of lawyers can keep me out of prison if I do?”

Wren’s surprise turned to astonishment. Very few things could shock him anymore after all these years, but Zoya’s words stunned him.

“You want to… punch my father?” he stammered.

“Yes, I want to punch him. Just tell me if your legal team can protect me!” Zoya said.

No one had ever dared to say they would beat his father.

Even Wren himself had only ever thought about becoming strong enough to keep himself from being manipulated by his father again. But this woman, she was saying it so openly, so straightforwardly, that she wanted to hit his father.

And it was for him. She wanted to hit his father because of him.

Wren smiled faintly. “Okay, I’ll protect you! No matter what happens, I will protect you!”

Daphne looked at the red marks on her neck in the mirror, gritting her teeth in hatred.

When Wren had grabbed her throat, he had truly wanted to kill her.

Even if she had brought up things he hated to hear, he shouldn’t have treated her like that. She thought it had to be because of Zoya’s influence.

Ever since Zoya appeared at Wren’s side, he hadn’t been the same. Not only had he attended Zoya’s parents’ funeral, but he was constantly doing unusual things for her.

Even within the Lucero family, criticism toward Daphne had been growing.

Some of their peers were already looking at her as if she were a pitiful woman who could be discarded at any time. It was unbearable.

Daphne was annoyed by their pity. The Lucero family had been able to secure the Richmond family’s support all these years entirely because of her. She sacrificed an eye for it.

But Zoya sacrificed nothing, yet she gained her great-grandfather’s affection, the concern of the Lucero family elders, and was even treated specially by Wren.

Daphne thought all of this should rightfully belong to her.

She pulled up her collar and left the bathroom, but as she reached a corner, she heard a familiar woman’s voice. “Nicolas, do you still have feelings for Zoya?”

It was Jasmine’s voice.

Daphne paused, peeked slightly, and saw Jasmine and Nicolas talking in the hallway on the other side of the corner.

She recalled that Nicolas was Zoya’s ex-husband.

“I’m already divorced from Zoya. How could I still have feelings for her?” Nicolas replied.

“Then why are you looking for those two rings?” Jasmine pressed.

Earlier today, she had come with Nicolas to the Lucero residence, hoping he could get a share in the island development project. But during the discussion with her uncle about the project, Nicolas’s expression had suddenly changed, and he made an excuse to leave in a hurry.

She thought something major had happened. But it turned out he was looking for the rings that had accidentally fallen, his and Zoya’s two inexpensive wedding rings.

“It’s just to remind me not to repeat the same mistakes in my future marriage,” Nicolas said.

These words were not only for Jasmine but also for himself. He kept the rings with him just for this reason.

“If I told you that your future marriage will definitely not repeat those mistakes, then can we throw these rings away?” Jasmine asked, opening her palm.

Nicolas’s two lost wedding rings lay quietly in her palm.

“How could you…” Nicolas said, surprised.

“While you were looking for the rings just now, I found them first by accident,” Jasmine said.

Nicolas stepped forward, wanting to take back the rings.

But Jasmine quickly closed her hand. “Nicolas, we’ve already lost three years. I don’t want to lose any more time. Our future won’t end like yours and Zoya’s, so you don’t need these rings to remind you anymore!”

Nicolas hesitated, a trace of struggle flashing in his eyes. “Give me the rings first.”

“What if I throw them away?” Jasmine asked.

“What?” Nicolas froze as she raised her hand, clearly intending to toss them into the nearby trash bin. Nicolas quickly grabbed her hand. “Don’t throw them away!”

“And you still say you have no feelings for Zoya?” Jasmine said unhappily.

Nicolas replied, “I just think that if they’re going to be thrown away, it should be me doing it in front of Zoya. That’s the only way to really end things.”

“Well said!” Daphne stepped out from the corner, clapping and smiling.

“Daphne.” Jasmine frowned slightly. She wondered if Daphne had overheard everything they had just said.

“In a few days, there’s going to be a government-led groundbreaking ceremony on the island.

Jasmine, Mr. Mayer, you should both attend. Wren will likely be there too. And I’m sure Zoya will follow him,” Daphne said.

Jasmine and Nicolas exchanged a surprised look.

They had been planning to attend. It was the perfect chance to network with government officials and the companies involved in the development, maybe even land some projects.

But…

“Zoya will be there?” Jasmine asked.

“She should be. Mr. Mayer, if you really want to put an end to things with Zoya, why not take this opportunity and throw the rings away in front of her?” Daphne said with a smile.
