Zoltan collected himself and closed the lid. “As an elder, I can’t possibly accept such an expensive gift from you.”
Larissa smiled. “It’s fine. I have plenty.”
Plenty? The word shocked Zoltan all over again.
Noticing Zoltan’s reaction, Finley couldn’t help but ask, “Mr. Palmer, are those herbs very expensive?”
Zoltan shot Finley a disdainful look. “Of course! They are exceedingly rare. My grandson Haskell paid a hundred million at auction for them! And now Larissa is just giving them to me as a gift. Never mind where she got the money; the fact that she has the connections to acquire them at all is extraordinary.”
Finley’s face went through a kaleidoscope of emotions. Larissa hadn’t been lying. Those herbs were worth a fortune.
Paxton stared at the box in Zoltan’s hands, a thoughtful expression on his face. His suspicions about his daughter were deepening.
“Alright, this is far enough. Feel free to visit the Palmer estate whenever you have time,” Zoltan said, carefully putting the precious box away.
“I will,” Larissa replied, then glanced at Haskell.
Haskell met her gaze and held up his phone slightly. “Talk later.”
Larissa winked and gave him an “OK” sign.
After the Palmers had departed, Paxton looked at his wife. “Vivica, I need to discuss something with Finley. It’s busy here, so you stay and help Neville and Sapphira.”
Honora watched Vivica rush after Larissa, a flicker of disappointment and resentment in her eyes. Were they already regretting their choice? Well, it was too late now. She would make sure they never repaired their relationship with Larissa.
“Larissa.”
Torrin’s voice stopped her. She turned to her right to see him approaching. He had waited until the Palmers left to find his chance.
Colter, unable to dissuade his son, went to make their excuses to Neville and Sapphira, but not before issuing a stern warning. “You can talk to her, but don’t cause any trouble. The Dillon family may be powerful in Regal City, but we can’t afford to offend the Judsons and the Palmers.”
Torrin walked up to Larissa, his eyes filled with resentment. “I can’t believe you agreed to marry Haskell so soon after we broke up. So you’re not so noble after all. You always looked down on me, didn’t you? Just waiting for a better offer to come along so you could kick me to the curb.”
Seeing that he had cast her as a gold digger, Larissa sighed. “Torrin, if thinking that makes you feel better, then go right ahead. Are we done?”
