“Solon, what’s up?” Larissa asked, getting straight to the point.
He cleared his throat on the other end. “So, here’s the thing. I have a friend whose family owns an entertainment company, and they’re interested in buying the rights to your final novel, “Heaven’s Will”. I was wondering if you might have some time in the next couple of days to meet up and talk about it. If it’s convenient, I could even drive out to the village to pick you up.”
Larissa smirked. “A ‘friend,’ Solon? Not just any friend, I’m guessing, if you’re calling me personally about it.”
He coughed awkwardly. “So, are you free or not?”
“You know, Solon,” she continued, enjoying teasing him, “you must really have your head buried in your writing. I’m not in Spire Village anymore. I’m in Regal City.”
He sounded genuinely surprised. “You moved to Regal City? That’s even better! We can just meet up somewhere here.”
“Alright,” Larissa agreed easily. “How about lunch tomorrow?”
“Perfect,” Solon said quickly. “I’ll pick a place and text you the details tonight.”
After hanging up, Larissa met Haskell’s curious gaze.
“That was the son of Zendar, an old neighbor who always looked out for me back in the village. He wants me to meet with his friend tomorrow about my novel’s film rights.”
“You write novels? And you’ve sold the rights before?” The admiration in Haskell’s eyes deepened.
“Yeah, I’ve written a few in my spare time,” she said casually.
“To write a few books ‘in your spare time’ and sell the rights is incredible,” he said, his praise undisguised. “What’s your pen name? I’d like to read your work.”
Haskell was pleased that she had explained their relationship to preempt any jealousy.
“As your fiancé, it’s good for me to meet your friends,” he said smoothly. “It will make things less awkward when we invite them to the engagement party.”
That made sense to her. “Alright, fine. You can come with me to meet Solon tomorrow.”
Larissa yawned and stretched languidly. “Okay, I’ve had enough drama, treatment, and food for one day. I think it’s time for me to head home for a nap.”
She turned to Haskell. “What are your plans for the afternoon?”
A soft smile touched Haskell’s lips. “I’m going to oversee the arrangements for our engagement party. It’s next Saturday. Grandpa promised it would be a grand affair, but since it’s our engagement, it’s special. I want to personally ensure every detail is perfect. I want it to be one of the best memories of your life.”
