“Your leg’s already broken, don’t try to walk so fast,” Larissa called after him. “If you can’t make it, just have Leopold or your dear sister carry you.”
Honora’s eyes narrowed. She realized Finley wasn’t trying to appease Larissa; he was being threatened. The proud, untouchable man she had always known was being repeatedly humiliated by this girl, and he couldn’t even fight back. It was pathetic.
“That’s it! Finley, I can’t stand this witch anymore!” Leopold spun around, his patience gone. “Larissa, don’t get too cocky! I’ll find a way to deal with you, just you wait!”
“You should focus on getting your own scandals off Twitter first.”
With that, Larissa turned and went back inside, closing the door behind her.
Leopold clenched his fists.
“Damn her,” he muttered under his breath.
…
After dinner with her new parents, Larissa went to her room and saw a message from Solon with an address: Paddy’s Home.
[Larissa, see you tomorrow at noon.]
Paddy’s Home was a renowned restaurant in Regal City and, as it happened, one of the Schwartz family’s properties. Its produce and poultry were even sourced from Spire Village.
Years ago, when Zendar Schwartz had become obsessed with exploring the village and neglected his family’s businesses, his son Solon Schwartz had been equally preoccupied with his writing career. So, Larissa had arranged for Nightveil to invest in the restaurant and take over its management. Under Nightveil’s guidance, Paddy’s Home had flourished, now rivaling some of Regal City’s most established restaurants.
The thought that Honora was Solon’s friend made tomorrow’s meeting all the more intriguing. She texted back.
[OK]
“Haskell! On your knees!”
Haskell had just entered the main hall when Thatch Palmer’s thunderous roar echoed through the vast space.
He raised a hand, signaling for Crispin to halt his wheelchair, and looked toward the source of the fury—his father, Thatch, who was seated on the main chair, his face contorted with rage.
“What is the meaning of this, Dad? What have I done wrong?”
“You have the gall to ask what you’ve done wrong?!” Thatch shot to his feet, pointing a trembling finger at his son. “How could you be so cruel? You threw Valeria out over a trivial matter, but that wasn’t enough for you, was it? You had to have her kneecaps shattered! You’re not human!” His voice cracked with rage. “And your own brother, Draven! You went to such lengths to convince your grandfather to bring him home. And now this? You poisoned your own brother! Has your conscience been eaten by a dog?”
Overcome with emotion, Thatch grabbed the nearest coffee pot and cup and hurled them to the floor. The sound of shattering porcelain filled the hall.
