Neville ignored Paxton, keeping his gaze fixed on Kiernan as he waited for a response.
It had been Larissa’s idea to hand control of Judson Pharmaceuticals over to her new father. The 10% stake, however, was something she had never considered. Her only goal was to strip Paxton's side of the family of everything they had, securing those assets for her parents’ future. She’d made more than enough money on her own; she didn’t need a single dime from the Judson family estate.
Still, the fact that her father was fighting for her share of the family fortune warmed her heart.
Kiernan’s brow furrowed. He clearly thought his eldest son's demand was exorbitant.
“Neville, you know perfectly well that I’ve already decided to give Larissa control of Starlight Media next month if Finley doesn’t turn things around. Now you want to take Judson Pharmaceuticals from your brother as well? That’s going too far.”
Paxton’s tense expression finally eased. Thank God, he thought, the old man hasn't completely lost his mind.
Neville seemed to have anticipated his father’s objection. “Fine, I’ll compromise,” he said. “We’ll treat it just like Starlight Media. Give me six months. If Judson Pharmaceuticals shows no improvement under my brother in six months, you turn the company over to me. But the 10% stake for Larissa is non-negotiable.”
That way, at least, even if the company ultimately stayed with Paxton, Larissa would still have a solid stake and receive dividends.
“Neville, you're going too far!” Paxton retorted, refusing to accept the terms. “Developing and producing pharmaceuticals isn't as simple as planting a garden! You can't just expect a breakthrough on demand. What can anyone possibly accomplish in six months?”
“If Judson Pharmaceuticals still hasn’t had a breakthrough after six months,” Neville countered with a sneer, “it will only continue to lose value under your management. What’s the point of you clinging to it? You’d be better off letting me have a shot.”
Any remaining hesitation Kiernan felt began to dissolve. “Larissa,” he pressed, his voice wavering slightly, “are you absolutely certain you’re not joking?”
Larissa’s expression was grave. “I’m not joking, Grandpa.”
Paxton could see his father wavering. If he didn’t do something, Larissa would win him over completely.
“Hah!” Paxton scoffed, his face a mask of contempt. “And who do you think you are? You're just a little girl, still wet behind the ears, and you expect us to believe the Schwartz family would partner with you? That's delusional. A complete pipe dream!”
