Josette whirled on Larissa. “What are you laughing at?”
A small smile played on Larissa’s lips. “Your husband’s information is correct, Aunt Josette. Zendar is coming back to Regal City tomorrow. But I doubt your husband will be able to get a meeting with him.”
Although her aunt had married into the prestigious Lincoln family, her husband, Jagger, was not the heir and held little real power.
Kiernan sat silently, his gaze fixed on his granddaughter, his mind clearly working.
Josette was incensed. “Who do you think you are, questioning my husband’s abilities?”
To her, an insult to her husband was worse than an insult to herself.
Larissa’s smile widened. “If you don’t believe me, we’ll see tomorrow, won’t we? We’ll see if your husband can actually get Zendar to meet with Uncle Paxton. If he does, I’ll… take your last name. Oh, wait, I already have.”
Josette couldn’t stand her dismissive attitude. “Fine! If my husband arranges the meeting, you will kneel and apologize for your insolence today! And if Paxton successfully partners with the Schwartz family, you won’t get a single share of the company!”
“Absolutely not!” Sapphira interjected, shaking her head at Larissa.
“It’s okay, Mom. I’m not that foolish,” Larissa said with a reassuring smile. “If I lose, I have no problem kneeling and apologizing to Aunt Josette. But if Uncle Paxton partners with the Schwartz family, the most that will happen is that Grandpa will no longer have a reason to give Judson Pharmaceuticals to my dad. I’m still keeping the shares. They were compensation for what happened during the car accident. It’s a separate matter, even though I have no intention of losing.”
Josette seized the opportunity. “Fine, keep the shares. But Dad, if I can make this happen, you have to do something for me.”
Josette’s eyes narrowed. “What do you want?”
“Nothing much. Just fire the steward from Uncle Paxton and Aunt Vivica’s house, and then, in front of the entire Judson family, you will kneel and apologize to me.”
Josette was aghast. “Apologize, fine. But you want me to kneel to you?!”
Larissa nodded. “That’s right. It’s only fair. What, are you not confident in your husband? Worried you might lose face?”
Josette seethed. “Fine! I agree. Because there is no way I will lose!”
