“Oh,” Torrin said, clearly unimpressed. “Draven? Never heard of you. I’ve only heard of the Palmer’s eldest son, Haskell. The cripple who’s about to get engaged to Larissa.”
Draven’s face darkened at the slight, but since he needed something from him, he maintained a friendly veneer and got straight to the point. “Torrin, I hear you and Larissa used to date.”
At the mention of her name, Torrin’s eyes lit up. “Yeah, so what?”
“Do you want her back?” Draven asked, his voice laced with temptation.
Torrin shot him a look that said, “what a stupid question”. “Of course I do. Why? Did you come all this way just to help me win her back?”
Perfect. Draven’s lips curved into a slight smile. “That’s right. If I can give you a helping hand and deliver the beauty into your arms, would you be willing to work with me?”
Torrin nodded without hesitation. “Definitely. What do you need me to do?”
A cunning glint appeared in Draven’s eyes. He lowered his voice. “Just imagine: at Larissa and my brother’s engagement party, what if all the guests witnessed the two of you, a man and a woman, alone in a room together? Do you think she could still go through with the engagement? In the end, she’d have no choice but to marry you, would she?”
Torrin was stunned for a moment, then it dawned on him. He clapped his hands in delight. “Brilliant! What a fantastic idea! Once her reputation is ruined, she’ll have no one to turn to but me! Haha…”
Seeing his excitement, Draven added a reminder, “Don’t celebrate just yet. I’ll do everything I can to create the perfect opportunity for you tomorrow, but whether you can seize it will depend on your own skills.”
Torrin, who was grinning from ear to ear, suddenly thought of something. “But I don’t have an invitation to the party.”
“Right, I get it,” Torrin said, his face full of anticipation. “I’ll play my part tomorrow.”
With his task accomplished, Draven smiled in satisfaction. “Well, I’ll be going then. I won’t disturb your rest.”
“Take care, my friend!” Torrin waved enthusiastically as Draven walked away.
After watching Draven’s car drive off, Torrin’s smile vanished. He frowned and cursed at the disappearing taillights.
“That idiot from the Palmer family must have come here specifically to get me killed! Telling me to create a scandal with Larissa at the party tomorrow. Does he think I’m a fool? As if I could drug Larissa and force her hand. If that were possible, I would have done it ages ago!”
