A stunned silence fell over the living room. Vivica froze, unable to process what was happening. It wasn’t until Larissa spoke that reality crashed down on her—this man, Bryant, actually knew that wretched girl.
“Bryant, it’s good to see you.”
As a child, Larissa could communicate with venomous creatures, but she couldn’t fully control them, making her a danger to herself and others. It was Bryant who had taught her how to properly command them.
“I never thought we’d meet again like this,” Bryant said wistfully.
A few days ago, an old friend had called, saying a woman named Vivica suspected her father-in-law had been hexed and wasn’t of sound mind. Thinking it was a simple job, he had agreed to help as a favor. It was only after meeting Vivica that he learned the person she wanted to frame was his own student, Larissa.
Bryant had kept this to himself and contacted Larissa, catching up on her situation. Together, they devised a plan to turn the tables on the family that sought to destroy her.
Larissa smiled sweetly. “Yes, thank you for coming all the way to Regal City, Bryant.”
Bryant waved his hand, his expression fond. “Oh, Larissa, don’t be so formal with me! It’s been too long, and I’ve missed you dearly. The moment I heard you needed a little help, I couldn’t get here fast enough!”
A warmth spread through Larissa’s chest. “Once this is all over, I promise we’ll have a proper catch-up. But for now, perhaps you could explain to my grandfather and everyone else what’s really going on.”
Bryant’s demeanor shifted, a hint of indignation in his voice. “Hmph, this whole affair is infuriating! This woman, Vivica, hired me to determine if her father-in-law, Kiernan Judson, had been hexed. A job is a job, nothing wrong with that. But then she had the audacity to give me a special instruction: even if I found nothing…”
The men panicked, frantically trying to shake the creatures off, but more just kept coming.
Vivica was frozen in terror, speechless.
Haskell raised an eyebrow. “Larissa, that swarm looks a little familiar.”
Larissa smiled. “It should. It’s the same one Draven released at our engagement party. I thought I’d put it to good use.”
After a pause, she added, a little surprised, “I’m impressed you can tell they’re the same ones, Haskell. Your observation skills and memory are incredible.”
